I recently purchased a new pc with windows vista as well as office 2007 student and home edition and have found that other people with older versions of office cant open my documents. Does anyone know if their is a patch or a solution for this problem? Thanks

You should be able to tell Office to save the document in an older format. Try clicking on the format option when you're saving, and it should give you a list of older versions you can save as. This will probably affect how your documents display, though.

whenever you want to save the document, take note below the file name field, there should be a format field.... change your format to older document format (should be written as Word 97-2003 & 6.0/95 - RTF)

Your problem should be solved by now... This is the way to do it in Office 2003, it should be the same for 2007 but the format might be written as different thing...

u can choose to save in another format instead of the new formats by selecting under the "save as" dialogue box.
if you wish, u can even set the default file format that ms office saves its work in. click on the Office button and then "XX options", where XX is the name of your office applications (eg. for ms word, then it will appear as word options). in the new dialogue box, click on "Save" and then set the default file format to be saved as "XX 97-2003 Document". click "OK" and u are done. all new files will be saved in the old format as default.
People with other versions of office can also download a compatibility pack to open the new formats in their older versions of ms office.

There's a way round it...

Instead of 'save' use 'save as'... and you can choose to save as another format. If you pick something like Office 2000 / Word 2000 then most people will be able to read them.

Anyone who works in a mixed environment has to do this...

if you open up your document, go to tools on the menu bar, hit the compatability tab, there should be an option in there to fix your prob.
