I've been driving for 37 years & up until the late 80's I drove domestic cars, Plymouth Fury III 440 commando, Ford & GM..models like 67 Vette 427/435hp, Grand Prix 74 455, & 78, Firebirds 70, 72 & 80, to name a few. Then after seeing how slow the "big three" Chrysler, Ford & GM were to improve their autos I made the move to Toyota & haven't looked back.
Not to mention the huge financial troubles they are in due to their lack of foresight.
I bought my Toyotas new & the only problem I have had is the CD player had to be replaced in one of the 5 Toyotas I've had so far which they replaced fast.
Camry is a very nice car, quiet, smooth ride, good looks, good fuel consumption for its size, quality fit & finish. Personally I would get the 6 cyl over the 4 but that's just my preference of wanting more power. They hold their resale value well too.
Matrix I've not owned one but there are no major problems with them.
Rav4 are good, lots of 'em on the road although I'm not a big fan of that class of vehicle no matter who makes them.
If you want a vehicle that if taken care of properly with regular maintenance will last you many years & many many miles then I have to go with the Camry. Toyota sticks with the same makes longer than than Chrysler, Ford & GM do for the most part & because of that they are able to work out any problems to the point that the cars are pretty much the best in class for durability & reliability. Camry has won many many awards for these reasons.
And Toyota makes many of their cars right in the US & Canada so you are helping to keep thousands of jobs at home, you're also supporting lots of parts manufacturers right in your own country so don't listen to people who tell you otherwise.
As well, do research on them. If you need more info just post it here & I'd be glad to give you some unbiased links to owners of Toyotas who discuss their experiences with them.

It all depends on your needs. All three are very reliable and fuel efficient. The Camry is known as a family and commuter car. The Matrix is fun and economical. And the RAV-4 (new one is awesome) is very practical for daily use as well as weekend get away.

if you're looking for a non hybrid car but still want good fuel economy as well as an SUVesque interior space, go for the 130hp 1.8L Toyota Matrix fwd. It gets roughly 32-33mpg and doesn't look that bad. or you can go for the pontiac vibe for a slightly different look
