We have a 2003 Toyota Echo, 4-door ( non-hatchback) with a good big trunk, air & CD stereo. We get 54 mpg /hwy, and it cruises at 70-75mph quite easily. We love it. Toyota can't be beaten, I think. We leased it. We think our next one will be theirMatrix all wheel drive , 4-door hatch-back. We live about 25-30 miles from the city, so we want something that will handle bad roads. The Matrix is $ 5,000.00 less that the Rav-4, and it rides better & has way better handling, & better gas mileage, with the advantage of 4-wheel-drive. The 4X4 system in it is the same reliable one that Toyota used to have in their Tercel 4X4 wagon. On good dry roads, it's in front wheel drive, but the second it senses any slipping or loss of traction, the other 2 wheels lock in, giving smooth transition from 2-wheel to 4-wheel drive. It's a really nice vehicle. They come with a cover to go in the back to cover up any thing you have in there, so people can't tell if there is something in there or not. I can't wait. It's got the Rav4 beat hollow !!

I bought a new Toyota Matrix in 06 and I love it! I had an issue with the head light which the dealership fixed right away. The majority of my friends, when they get in my car say how much they like it. I think it looks good and drives well. The gas milage is great and I love the features. I got the XRS model, with the 6 speed. I have had it for 4 months and still can say I love my car!

you did not pay attention to ANYTHING I wrote in my huge question you should read it again, I even added more info. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Akp9m.18WXAYVsvXAnfMrsgjzKIX?qid=20070301210328AAn8E5d Those problems ONLY AFFECT NEW TOYOTAS. Just because someone has a 86 CAmry that is still in good condition doesnt mean a 2007 CAmry will last half that long. Toyota has encountered problems with rapid expansion, they didnt have to deal with that even a few years ago. These would be my alternatives, the Saturn Aura for the CAmry, the Pontica Vibe for the Matrix (mechanically identical twins, but ConsumerAffairs picked the Vibe as best), and the Honda CRV instead of the Rav4.

My mom has a Rav-4. It runs pretty well, we never had any problems with it. My sister had a Matrix and she loves it. It's really roomy and drives really smoothly. Again, no problems. My other sister had a Camry, and it's a really reliable car. The newer ones are even better.

Got a Matrix XR 2WD manual, and love it! The only thing I have against it is the ground clearance. I like to go way out in the boonies and hike, climb, camp, and this car is alittle too low for forestry roads. In the city its awesome and I get 34+ on the highway on cruise. I can't complain.
