I am considering a relocation to the Atlanta area, and have a few propects for housing within the surrounding area. Would you reccommend the Conyers area? If not, why? What other areas would you recommend?

I am not racist, my son is biracial, but thsi ara seems to be primarily black and I would be worried that they might be racist towards me, I am white. Does anyone have a feel for the race relations in the area?

Well I am a Conyers native. It has always been primarily white, and still is though it is becoming less so. There are quite a few black owned business. We also have a good many latinos and jamaicans, as well as others, and from what I have seen they all seem to get along fine. I don't think race is any more of a problem than it is anywhere else. As far as that goes, I'm white, but I am gay, and I have never had any problems. We do have a very good school system, dispite what a few have said. And yes they did do a documentary on the syphilis outbreak here 10 years or more ago, but once again that problem is everywhere, we were just the ones in the line of fire.

Conyers is rapidly growing, changing everyday. This being the case, property values are only going up. Someone in my family bought a house here on 15 acres 15 years ago for around $120,000, now worth $450,000 +. We have access to pretty much everything you need as far as shopping, and if you like to go to nice restaurants we are only 30 min from down town Atlanta, though I am sure before long we will have them here too(and by nice I don't mean outback or red lobster, conyers does have those). The population in this county in 1990 was 54091, in 2000 it was 70111, and I would venture to say we are at 100,000 now. One of the good things here is that there is still some undeveloped land left in certain parts of the county, without being too far from town. In fact until a few months ago I was sitting next to a 600 acre tract of undeveloped land, now they are turning it into a new subdivision.

I live in Conyers and love it here. Its away from Atlanta, but not too far from there if you do have to commute to Atlanta. Buying a house in Conyers as like any big town, can be a bit expensive, but outside of the towns, houses are a lot cheaper. It all depends on your lifestyle as far as finding somewhere to live. Conyers is a growing town and will continue to grow for years to come. If your going to move to here, I'd suggest the south or north end of Conyers. There's everything you need around you. Stonecrest Mall is not too far a drive. The schools are great here if you have children and the crime rate is a lot lower than other counties. I hope you find a great place to relocate!

Rockdale County is where there was a big Syphilis outbreak from high school orgies a few years ago (Conyers is the primary town of that county). You also hear a good bit about racial tension from both sides there. Actually, that area is pretty much the butt of many jokes around Metro Atlanta. I would look elsewhere for good places to live in Metro Atlanta. That goes double if you have a kid, as I have heard little good about the school systems there. Go to Cobb County, or Gwinnett County for good schools. Marrietta, Kennesaw, Woodstock (a bit further out), Duluth, Norcross, Alpharetta (North Fulton County), Lawrenceville, and Dacula. Douglassville (Douglas County) is pretty nice too, growing a lot. They have alright schools there as well. Those are some of the nicer areas of Metro Atlanta. You may not get as much for your money, but you will be paying for the area as well. Well worth it if you have a kid. In general stay north of I 20 (on the west side) and west of I-85 for an eastern boundary. The north and west of the city are the nicest areas, the south and east not nearly so much. Good luck.

I have a very good friend that lives in Conyers. It's an awesome place! I don't think you will have problems with racism at all. It's a friendly southern town close to the big city. :)

Alpharetta...Duluth....Norcross...Lilburn...Lithonia....Tucker.

Conyers is not a fun place because there's nothing to do. Pick one of the places I listed above...I lived in Duluth, Norcross and Tucker...those places ROCK!!
