A texturizer caused my hair to get thin and fall out. What should I do to restore my hair?
In June 2006, a hairdresser put a texturizer into my hair. I was later informed that she used too much on me (4 boxes) and she left it in for too long (about 20 minutes). Before I went to another beauty salon, my hair would fall out often and my hair had been thinning out. Some parts of my scalp don't have as much hair as it used to. And instead of my hair being curly and beautiful after washing it, it is unmanageable. If anyone recommends any good treatments (especially those that are natural, with no harsh chemicals), I beg for your help. Also, if anyone knows of a good hair salon with restorative treatments, please let me know. Thank you so much.

Your situation is really unfortunate. Too many people would like us to believe that short, styled, highlighted, permed---whatever, is what it takes to have beautiful hair. Not so!

PLEASE do yourself a favor--save your hair and your money and quit going to salons. Chemicals are EXTREMELY damaging to hair, especially anything that changes the texture.

Try finding fragrance-free haircare products, especially shampoo and conditioner. Scents often irritate the scalp if you've had chemicals applied. DON'T wash everyday.

Olive oil is a WONDERFUL hair treatment. Jojoba oil is the best to use because it is similar to natural sebum, your scalp oil. You can apply it to your scalp and the length of your hair, but don't overdo it, or you'll look greasy.

Make sure you're avoiding hairspray, hairgel, and mousse if you can. Don't pull your hair into ponytails that put stress on hair---try braiding it or wrapping it with a cool bright patterned scarf, or wear a wide headband. This could help hide obvious thin patches of hair in a stylish way.

Finally, learn to love your natural hair texture, whether it's wavy, straight, fine, coarse. You may have to cut some damaged hair, it will benefit you in the long-run if you plan on growing your hair longer.

At night, it would be wise to invest in a silk or satin pillow, so your hair can slide around easier while you sleep. Oil your hair well at night, and use a wide-toothed comb to detangle before sleep and right away when you get up. NEVER get in the shower without detangling. After you detangle, if you apply oil before shower/wash, your hair will come out SO smooth.

Good luck, hon!

Wow. I am very sorry to hear about that. I would recommend a old Spanish trick my mom showed me for my little girl. Go to a Spanish supermarket in you town. Or at least the Spanish food isle in the market should have it too. It is called in English coconut oil of the hair. It comes in a clear container and the cream is white. It can be used in food too. But you apply it to the hair as a hair grease on the scalp and hair. Your hair will grow in no time. I used it on my little girl. We have different kinds of hair and I did not know how to treat hers (she was my first child). and after using it for only a month her hair was much longer and healthier. Good Luck.

I took Horsetail Grass in order for my hair to grow back and it worked like a charm. You can buy it as a tea or you can buy it capsule form.
