Rice - this is an excerpt from Wikipedia --> Stone tool evidence from the Yunchanyan site in Hunan province suggests the possibility that Early Neolithic groups cultivated rice as early as circa 9000 B.C.

As to your question which will be here after 500 years...as Norway's ambitious project is on its way to becoming reality with start of construction of the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, designed to house as many as 3 million of the world's crop seeds. This project is called "Noah's Ark" and it offers the world a chance to restart growth of food crops that may have been wiped out by plant epidemics, nuclear war, natural disasters or climate change. The Nordic nation is footing the bill of up to about $4.8 million for infrastructure costs. This vault will be built in Longyearbyen, Spitzbergen

Bread of one kind or another has been around since biblical days. I think that the taste of food has changed a lot since 500 years ago, mainly due to the invention of chemical additives and preservatives. Also 500 years ago people didn't have refined sugar or methods of long term storage such as canning or refrigerating. I think that the food 500 years ago would have been a lot more bland, as salt and spices were hard to come by, also the bread would have probably been coarser, as the wheat/bran/oats etc would have been ground by hand or on a gristmill, it wouldn't be as finely ground as today.

Honey. It's the only natural food that doesn't spoil. It gets hard, but all you have to do is heat it to liquify it again. It's been around since the Egyptian times, and as long as there are bees, it will continue to be around. Even if the bees die off, since honey doesn't spoil, as long as someone has some it will still be a viable food source in 500 years.

Honey.

Honey was found in Egyptian tombs. It was dehydrated, but still usable as honey.

It'll still be here in 500 and 5000 years. As long as there are bees.

potatos. they have always been with us, even since the greek days. I remember my husband and I reading a flyer from mcdonalds one morning and them tellin gus that potatos used to be used as a aphrodisiac (sp??). I did a little bit of research and on wikipedia they said the first time potatos were DOCUMENTED was back in 1701. so, really they could've been used forever and ever before then.
