Often dogs will join in if another dog begins howling. Sometimes it is as simple as loneliness on the part of one lone yard ornament that gets everyone going. Other times it may be an ambulance siren that gets them started. At this point it is impossible to tell. Usually it is not something to worry about. Howling is not an alert like barking is. Howling is more like talking. It's just annoying to those of us who have to listen to every dog in the neighborhood at the same time.

I think they are communicating to each other.
I live in the country and usually when our dogs howl is because of a Wolf or Coyote howling; and sometimes the neighbor dogs just like to howl so our dogs will howl back. It is kinda neat watching the dogs react to the howling.

Some dogs do howl, but if your dog is doing it because of
other dogs, it's just their way of communicating. There's
nothing wrong.

Are you in a place where wolves or coyotes could be around? Or one dog started and everyone answered.
