Your metabolism may have slowed a little but this wont prevent you from losing weight, it may just take a while longer, but you will get there. I could have easily given up hope but if losing weight of any description in what you need then I would suggest you try herbalife. the products and poeple are great. I lost 40 pounds in less than four months and my sister even more. try myhealthabc.com, you can get lots of free samples and a complete health evaluation for free if you pay the postage (I think its only about ten dollars) its well worth it. I have kept the weight off with the advice they have given me. I hope this helps.

I lost 105 pounds in 6 months. Here is how I did it.
1. Every morning get up and walk for 45 minutes. You can start with less time, but you want to get up to 45 minutes, and it must be fast walk. You want your heart rate to go up. It must be in the morning, it kick starts your metabolism.
2. I cut out Red Meat, and fatty foods. Boneless skinnless chicken breast, baked, or grilled, rice and vegetables (steamed).
3. Eat half. Just eat half of what you normally eat. Put 1/2 on your plate, and put the rest away. Cook less. When you go to fast food, get salads only. Or grilled chicken. No fries, only diet soda. Or water.
It will work, once you get into a routine, you will get hooked on the results, and you will keep the routine. It has been over a year for me.
Also start counting your calories. Write them down. You would be amazed as to how much more aware you are of your caloric intake, if you actually write it down. We recently discovered a site that offers a great program that counts calories, as well as keeps track of everything. It allows multiple users, so everyone in the family can keep track. They offer a free 7 day trial, and so far I am very impressed with the product. Try the 7 days and see. It allows you to add the exercise that you do during the day, which increases the amount of calories you can take in. Very Cool!!

Stay motivated, and get up and walk every day. I seriously lost all my weight starting off my day on my walk.
Good LUCK!

This is partly because hormone balances change. This isn't just estrogen. You have lots of hormones that affect all sorts of bodily function.
Another reason is that the GI tract gets sort of "built up" over time which means you are getting less nutritional value from the food you eat.
So the least expensive thing to start with is to try an internal intestinal cleasing product. If you email me, I'll point you at a web site that has good products (I make no money off the recommendation).
The second thing to try is a dietary supplement that contains Wild Yam. This is a source of "phytosterols" and can help your body improve your hormonal balances. Over time this can lead to improved energy and weight loss.

As we age, it can be much harder to loose weight. One reason being that our bodies slow down and we tend to eat the same amts. of food, when our body simply doesn't require that much nutrition. Diets don't work, realize that and your on your way to living healthy. Exercise, even if its a 20-30 minute walk each night after diner can be a start. If you have a pet dog or better yet a partner as well, its a great 30 minutes well spent! Put it in simple terms is this...If you once ate 6 pieces of pizza for example, your body only needs 3 pieces, the other 3 you just ate aren't needed to fuel your body and will be stored as fat!

I'm about to turn 36 and I am 114 lbs per 5'6", actually lighter than in my teenage years.
However, it takes discipline (like the RN wrote).
First thing, speed your metabolism up by:
A) eating 6 small meals a day (1 every 3 hrs)
B) exercising in the morning
C) doing mini-sprints while running
Second, get into healthy eating habits:
A) eat whole complex carbs
B) eat only/mainly ESSENTIAL fatty acids
C) eat only lean proteins (fish, shellfish, chicken, eggwhites, fat free dairy)
D) priviledge eating organic fermented (fermented dairy, pickles, sauerkraut), wild (game, salmon) and/or raw food from certified safe places (raw meat, raw milk, raw fish)
Third start putting on lean mass by:
A) doing weight lifting
B) supplementing your diet with whey proteins (post workout) and/or milk proteins (before going to bed).
good luck

it's not impossible, it simply takes more discipline. Face it you spent the previous years eating enough to gain the weight. It isn't so easy now to discipline yourself is it? It all has to do with exercise and caloric intake. If you eat less than your body requires to maintain it's current weight, then you lose weight.
I began my trek to weight loss at 50, I am now 52 and within 23 pounds of my goal of 100 pounds lost and kept off. So wise up, discipline yourself and lose the weight.

Try this once.
- Perform 20 minutes cardio before your breakfast. This will increase calorie burning during the entire day!
- Lower your carbohydrate intake, so your body will choose fat to burn instead of carbohydrates.
- Consume a lot of proteins, but make sure you still consume the same amount of calories a day.
If that doesn't work. Increase the duration of cardio and lower your calories by 200. Keep trying.
Good luck.

The reason it is harder to lose weight after 30 and you develop a tummy is that you are a victim of the American diet and no one has told you the reality of what needs to be done. Our bodies are designed to eat raw, uncooked foods grown on highly biologically active fertile soils. Instead, we eat foods that are very nutrient deficient, plants that are sick (but look good), and we can produce a lot of it! In regard to the average person, it has nothing to do with your metabolism slowing down as we are told. If that were true, all old people would be fat.
There is hope for you, however and you don't really want to eat raw meat I'm sure. Because there is a real threat to your health from eating raw meat, and even some raw vegetables like broccoli that is not cooked can slow your thyroid down and you don't really want to eat a lot of Lima beans because they contain strychnine, but a little is good for you.
The real problem you are having is not what you are eating so much, although that definitely contributes to the problem, but how you are digesting your food. If you are like most Americans that have poor functioning livers and gall bladders, you are not digesting your fats well and will get cholesterol problems. Then when you go see the doctors, in all their drug company educated minds will subscribe drugs for you that will shorten your life rather than treat the real problem that most of them are not educated to do or make you dependent on them and drugs to feebly give you solutions that seem to help you, but will actually be damaging your body. If you exercise, that will help, but you will find it won't do the job unless you abuse your self to a huge extent and starve yourself and start looking like a 3rd world refugee.
My suggestion, and I speak from experience because I had the same issue you now have, is to do the following:
1. Stop and I mean stop all ANTACIDS! These things will not only cause your tummy issue, but set you up for many diseases later on. That purple pill they advertise, yikes! What a crock! And tums. Who are these people anyway and why are they doing this to us! I agree with the adage "if you tell people something long enough, they will start to believe it and it will become a fact."
As we age, especially from about 25 years old, we produce less and less stomach acid. As well as, because we eat cooked & processed foods, the stomach acid we do have is used up quickly because these foods do not have enzymes in them like raw food does to assist in breaking them down. So what happens is the food we eat begins to rot and ferment. This process produces LACTIC ACID. This Lactic acid is what causes the so called "acid indigestion," not stomach acid as we are so flagrantly told by the Drug Company ads that want you to buy their Antacids "that neutralize stomach acid." What you need is more stomach acid not this neutralizing stuff. To prove this, take Betaine HCL at the first sign of acid indigestion and you will find that within a couple minutes, the acid feeling disappears.
This is what I did and it worked for me. I am not a doctor and I'm not prescribing here, merely suggesting and telling you what I did. (my disclaimer for the legal guys) Go to this web site and order:
www.healthline.cc (they ship anywhere)
1. Betaine HCL + an activator. Take 2 HCL and 1 activator after each meal. You can even take this between meals for better results.
2. Order their probiotics. Take one in the morning with a glass of keifer milk (flavored is really good tasting) and one at night.
3. Take one or two digestive enzymes from the same company.
4. Eliminate all SOY products from your diet. Soy slows your thyroid (just look at the medical indications on any Synthroid or other thyroid medication literature to verify this), it will reduce your iron intake and make you iron deficient anemic, damage your prostate, as well as many other issues.
Eliminate all CANOLA oils. This is 100x more toxic than SOY and soy is bad enough. Read the labels. No Vegetable Oils (because these are genetically engineered soy or canola). The Canadian Government spent over $50 million dollars convincing our glorious FDA to approve it. Amazing how money doesn't just talk, it screams!
These oils will put on the waste line. Eat olive, palm, coconut, avocado, oils.
2. Find out if you have a liver & gall bladder issue. Take one cod liver oil capsule and see if you burp it all day. If you do, you have a problem and are inviting cholesterol problems as well. This will put on the stomach. If you have this issue, get the gall bladder detox and liver detox from that company listed above. Ask them what they suggest regarding this issue.
3. Get the digestive enzymes from the company above as well. I would suggest taking these with each meal as well.
4. Stop eating meat you buy in a super market. This stuff is Angus cattle that have been grain fed. These cows are fed antibiotics and hormones to produce the results. They are very high in omega 6 fatty acids that are very inflammatory and in high quantities very, very bad for you and exacerbate the oil digestion problem. Eat only GRASS FED CATTLE that produce high omega 3 and low omega 6 fatty acids. This is very good for you and will contribute to losing that tummy.
I can tell you that I did the above things and my stomach went down without exercise! With exercise, eliminate all sodas, all sugars, hydrogenated oils, and following what I did, I believe you will be amazed at the results.
Good luck
