I got a puppy from a store that I will not mention. The point is, they said they didn't have the papers there at time of purchase. We were told we would have the papers in a couple of weeks. This was in December. A few days ago I called and was told to call back. They said that the owner had a stack of papers dating back to November. I called the next day and some guy said that the girl was out to lunch and to call back later. I decided to call the next day to give them time to find the papers. Well, the same day, they called my husband and apologized profusely that they had the papers all along. My husband said he would pick up the papers soon. The person on the other line said sure, no problem. I went two days later and the place was shut down. No forwarding phone or address. So here I am. Expensive pup without papers. I have managed to find the number of the owner and after several calls and messages, no one has called back. What should I do? Any help would be great. Sorry so long.

Odds are if you got the puppy at a pet store the papers weren't from a legit registry anyway. Most pet store puppies are registered with scam registries in otherwords they have a piece of paper but they aren't registered really. The papers are worthless from a bogus registry. Also pet store puppies come from mills and other irresponsible breeders. They aren't from responsible, reputable breeders.
There really is nothing you can do other then report it to the better business bureau/bureau of consumer affairs other then taht you've been had.

Whatever breed the dog is .... look up that breed's club or association and report the breeder. You will also find out at that point whether you did buy a dog from a reputable breeder. They might be able to help you get the papers from him/her IF there are any.
Lesson in this: Never buy a pure breed dog from a pet store. Often they are from puppy mills. Always buy directly from a reputable breeder which you can find on-line or in the Dogs Annual magazine.
Good luck.

If they were supposed to be AKC papers then you can contact them and tell them of the problem. If your dogs breeder registered the litter then you may have a chance of them finding the litter registration, if the breeder didn't then I think there is no hope. If not then in all likely hood you will never get any papers for your dog.
You may want to consider going to small claims court and file a judgement against the store owner.

You can take him to court on misrepresentation and get your money back minus the amount of a regular non-registered puppy. Make sure you document all the times you tried to call and all the messages. Try to get a forwarding address and put in a written request to present papers. Good luck.

Unfortunately this is what happens when you buy puppies from pet stores. The people who sell them aren't interested in dogs only money. People like yourself purchase puppies from these places thinking you have a papered pet when in reality it isn't.
I would enjoy your dog as is without papers and put it down to experience.
However, the nest time you want to buy a puppy go to a reputable breeder not a pet store or puppy supermarket please, make sure you tell all your friends how to do it properly too.

Alway's buy from a breeder. Most of us, including myself, found this out the hard way. My experience was 35 years ago. Pet stores have gotten worse.
You need to follow what Goldangel said. Contact AKC. If they can't help, go to court.

You have been taken, fleesed, ripped off, call the better business borough the police and if it was a corporate store find the headquarters and speak to a national sales manager. If it was privately owned you can only go to the cops and file a complaint fraud would be my best guess.

When you bought the dog did you get in writing any evidence of who the breeder was and/or the date of birth and sire and dam, and registering agency. (like AKC, APRI, CKC etc...) If you did see if you can search out the breeder and if they will help you. That might be a less expensive way to handle it.
