OK everyone is free to their own opinion. I live in West Virginia, and I think we're just about like anyone else. Every state has nice people, rude people, freaks, and just flat out mean people. I know that everyone thinks in West Virginia its all relative, but its truly not. So to sum up West Virginians it's not relative, and we're not cannibals. Now, I've been to other states where I've thought the people there were very rude, but it's a cultural difference. So in my opinion, I don't believe West Virgianians are rude and I do no believe our family trees consist of freaks and weird people. I don't know what part of West Virginia you were in. But seriously don't judge us by what you've seen in the movies, or the people you have met because I guarantee you we're all not rude or freaks.

Why are New Yorkers so rude?
Why are Californians so rude?
Why are Americans in general so rude?

It's not right to make generalizations about an entire group of people based upon the behaviors of a few people. I have visited and vacationed in West Virginia; my brother and his wife went to and graduated from a West Virginia college; and I have family that live or have lived in West Virginia...and none of them are "so rude and ... freaks and weird people".

Just because you have a bad experience with a select few from one particular region/state/area, does not mean that all people from there will treat you the same way.

Maybe the people you came across were just having a bad day. Has that ever happened to you? You were having a terrible day and you may have left a bad impression upon someone else? Maybe you made people from your region/state/area look bad and now other people judge that region/state/area differently because of you??!!??

It's probably just a cultural difference. You may come across as rude to them, so they may be rude to you. And one person's normal is another person's weird, after all. I thought it was odd that Italians eat so much cheese, after all, because most Cherokee people don't and are actually pretty lactose intolerant. But they do what they do, and we do what we do. I do think some of their ways are freaky and weird, but they probably think the same of mine.

I wouldn't worry about it, really. Just be a nice person, that's all. And remember to respect their culture and lifeways like you want them to respect yours. Don't follow the examples of many of the posters below, acting ignorant and stupid.

You are really generalizing here. I have known of only one person from W.Va. who was rude as opposed to so many nice people. I have known many people from N.Jersey who were rude but, I don't judge the whole state on that. Freaks and wierd people? How do you know they don't think that about you?

I lived in WV for 20 years way back when. People there were generally the nicest, most courteous people ever. That was until those North Easterners started movin' in, bringing their bad attitude, city stylin', its my way or the highway, its all about "ME" POS attitudes that wrecked the place. So, afore 'ya go ah pointin' fingers at us, look at yurselfves and ask, "What did I bring to WV when I went there, a good positive attitude, or a POS one that musta' rubed 'em the wrong way?"

Fur 'ya ignant folk, POS = Piece a Sh@t

Right back at 'cha!

Because they have no teeth.

Follow Up: You like that Patrick M? Me too.

And the response from Krodgibami a little bit further down just proves the askers point. And mine as well. Rude no teeth having freak. Look how he wrote that? Don't read it. It will lower your IQ a few.

But then again you haven't met everyone from there. Generalizations are bad.
