It's because there is so much dogma and hypocrisy linked to religion, people kill in the name of God and commit suicide. And who would want to believe in a God who would judge them and send them to burn in hell and condemn them as dirty and sinful. These are all good reasons to doubt and question. Also many so called believers in God do not imbibe the real spiritual values and just give religion a bad name. It's usually the rare quiet believers who are living examples of good heartedness rather than being just talk, that shine.
The true meaning of God has been forgotten to a large extent, as God is viewed mostly as external and separate. There is a real lack of spiritual understanding. An awareness that our essence and everything around us is God/Pure consciousness changes everything.
A good film to watch on this subject is: "What the bleep do we know"

It's simply because religion has deceived and failed us more than helped us. Along with the fact that so much of it cannot/ has not & probably will not ever be proven as a fact and when u realize this, u feel the sense of betrayal by one of those things u held close to your heart and it hurts. Thus the reactions can be very emotional and what was once loved is now hated.
Religion does not really encourage us to know about God but to believe in God and there is a big difference in the two. When people try to know more of what they are taught and the representitive don't have the answer, the inocent seekers are told to just sit and believe- which is a smart way of saying "I don't know"- but they will never admit it unless u keep pressing the questions.

As we go through life we come upon difficult times and look for something to help us with our trials and tribulations. Some love the idea of someone liking them up there - some watching over them. Some like the idea that they have no control, that someone else is running the show. Some find those ideas distasteful - or some believed in God and then felt disappointed or forsaken and so turn away.
There are many, many reasons why people believe as they do, and we find that our beliefs evolve during the course of our lives. I, personally, do not like the idea of a personified god (it makes me feel like a doll in a doll house) and so for many years would say "I don't believe in God". I do, however believe in a Universal Energy that powers this existence and after many years I realized that that's what people were calling God. Now I acknowledge that I do believe in God, though not in a traditional "Man in heaven" kind of way - still, they are very likely the same thing, just interpretted in different ways.
It's really a quite brilliant system. We all get to live together and through perception and interpretation get to have our own life - we get to be at the center of each of our own individual universe, while participating with others. Brilliant.
Peace!

Everyone has different opinions/beliefs/thoughts/reactions to everything, including religion. It's part of being human, part of who we are. There are many religions, not just Christianity. Not everyone believes in "God"...Some believe in gods by different names, as one example. You will find Christians too, that seem to have something against people who don't believe in God.
Try and see things from their points of view for a moment and try to understand why they may react that way. Think about your position on religion and God, and think about how you react to, or even how you FEEL about those who believe differently than you.
You must be running into people that are somewhat intolerant of your beliefs. I think it's silly, but you can't change that, right? If you're comfortable with your beliefs, don't let others bring you down! If more people would try, even just a bit, to more often see things from others' perspectives, this world would be better off. Tolerance and understanding are key to a more peaceful place.

That's because religion was set up by rulers of countries to keep their people suppressed and in check. I bet you think people learning about Buddha is a waste of time, though. There's way too much scandal in any type of organized religion, I believe. You have to look at the people who are running it now and where the religion originated to see that there is a possibility that it is all fake.

Your faith came from your family and was passed down for generations like people in Islamic, southern Baptist, Israel etc.
It is a very sad brain wash lock in the old culture. Poor kids never had a chance to make their own choice. In Pakistan, kids were sent to school spend all their time to memorize the Koran by heart without knowing what the meaning of it.
It is too late for you on this, please give your kids a chance and do not force them to believe what you are deeply into today.
Simply don't know what to say to you folks, we are in two different worlds, mine the real one and yours, the make believe.
You call it religion, and I call it superstition.

Some people have something against god or people who believe in god because some of these god believers have much more against them (the ones who don't believe).

Some people are positive that they are right no matter what, and use pointless logical loopholes to "prove" He doesn't exist.
