I'm worried about if i should go right after school or wait. I don't know if im cut out for this at all, but it is something that i know if i dont do it in my lifetime i will regret it. But i am really nervous about leaving home and being in a country that is completely opposite from my country.

If you really want to help the people of the countries where you will be stationed don't join the Peace Corp, go with agencies that do similiar work but are seperated from governmental control and influence. If you only want to feel like you are helping out (hero complex to give yourself a sense of worth) or have a 2 year exotic travel experience then go for it. The Peace Corp is the way that the US smiles at a countries face, then stabs them in the back through other means. The Corp is sent in to make it appear to the country in question and the world stage that we are trying to help a country out while we really are trying to economically or politically use them to our own advantage. Sorry to have to say this. I really wish they were a cool organization, but they are not. The people in the Corp have good intentions, but they may in the end do more harm than good. I have friends who were in the Corp who share this opinion. Please, in any job where you want to do good, really try and make sure that you are in the end going to have done more good than harm.

There are a few here on the "Military" answers that have done both, easier to do military first but some military jobs (MOS's) will bar one from certain peace Corps assignments and vice versa
as the military will not accept former Peace Corps members in many occupations.

Complicated all on the Peace Corps website.

Peace Corps does like certain military training areas such as medical and engineering.

What you are bringing into the Peace Corps: type of degree, experience and language skills has a great deal to do with you role. All the "good jobs" get taken by folks like me: medical, languaged trained, operate a small boat, etc.. Marshall Islands
doing rehabilitation work. But "Medical Missionary" foundations are very much worth investigating. Depends on your skills, if they are useful. Me: Honduras, Panama, etc. great fun? But a heartbreak. Army was "more fun', better support, never felt "alone". But not many good "peacekeeping" jobs at this time.

Good luck

You will not be alone and many have done it before you and many will do it after you. Everyone is nervous in the beginning, you are no different. Have a good time.

You only live once. Later, when you've established your career, have a spouse and a mortgage, there won't be time. If it's something you want to do, you better do it now.
