Don't let him bite you! All puppies do bite and chew, but it should not be to your expense! When the dog tries to bite you, say "NO!" in a loud voice and take your hands away. Give him a chewie or a toy to play with instead. You do not want him thinking he can chew on people's hands when they visit! This is a very bad habit dogs can get into and they will not outgrow it when they get older.

The growling is just playing, as long as his tail is wagging.

I ran into the same problem with one of our dogs when she was a puppy. I tried scolding, rolled newspaper, crating her after she bit, but none of it worked. Then(this is going to sound silly now, but trust me) one day I was just petting her, and she bit, caught that skin between the thumb and index finger, it was a surprise because she was being really mellow. I yelped. Seriously, like a dog yelps. She did the whole head ****** to the side thing, and was trying to figure out if I really yelped or not. So, the next time she bit my hand, I yelped again. And as soon as I would yelp, she back away, or get affectionate. After yelping a few more times when she bit too hard, she didn't do it anymore.
I watch her with other dogs too, when they're rough housing, they can kick, bite and knock each other over and they're fine. But all it takes is one yelp if someone bites or kicks too hard, and I think they learn their pain tolerance, because then they don't seem to do it again.
I used to embarrass my boyfriend when the dog would bite me in front of his friends, and I would yelp, but I didn't really care. It worked.

It's normal for a puppy, when he does it too hard you need to smack him on the nose and scold him. I've had puppies that played like that and are sweet, loving dogs. I'm not saying that this is definitely your case, but give the puppy a chance to outgrow this behavior before you label him vicious and get rid of him. You should also get him some chew toys and tug of war toys.

He is biting because his teeth are growing, so he needs something to bite.
