I see grafitti, dumb a** people with loud music in their cars or my neighbor which HURTS my ears and health.... c*appy highschool kids(the ones that turn gangster and don't even study) fighting with eachother in buses, disturbing the peace. There's a bunch of things that I always witness but they never get caught. Should we all take matters into our own?

Not unless you have deep pockets, you will be sued.

Please don't take the law into your own hands, doing so is breaking the law, too.

What I suggest is a concerned effort between folks, the more the better, I would start sending written complaints to the police department and address the letters to the Chief of Police, just state the facts but leave out the tattle-telling, just tell them what it is about where you live that is bothering you (no names, no license plates, just what is happening).

And, enough complaints keep getting sent in, again the more people get involved the better it gets, I can almost guarantee the police will get hot on that.

It will likely take some time, but you should see improvement.

No- it is not our job to take the law into our own hands. If everyone did that it would be mass chaos. There would be no set standard of right or wrong or for the punishment for a crime- it would be each for his own.

I know it is frustrating and it feels like nothing is being done. We can do our part to help the law enforcement officials by reporting crime we witness, following the laws ourselves, and forming neighborhood watch groups to help watch out for eachother and build community with one another.

I also hate to break it to you, but our world is not a peaceful place, so good luck trying to get the local law officials to enforce noise levels and stop all high school fights. You will just have to suck up some of that stuff and be glad when they do catch some of the villians who make our world more chaotic. We need to reach out to people who are making these poor choices and set positive examples for them. Parents need to start being parents to their children, so they are raised with a conscience and understanding of what is right and wrong. We can make the difference by working with these people and helping them see a better way to live.

There are "special" occasions when you can do citizens arrest. I wouldn't recommend it though in case you end up getting killed in the process. If you see things happen, write the time / date / people involved / and precisely what was said and send to the police and ask them to watch out for these people. That's generally what I do. Also, where I live I have a 16 year old bully who thinks he can push kids around, throw rocks, etc. at homes so I did finally go outside and tell the little punk off. Of course, his parents came over and threatened to kick my *** until I explained to them what was going on with his bullying. Since then, he at least stopped throwing rocks and snowballs at my windows, but he does still bully the other little kids around (and I'm talking a 16 yr old bullying kids as young as 6 - 10 years of age. Each time I hear him yelling "Fu*ck this, and fu*ck that" at the kids, I do plan on showing him what it is like to be bullied by someone bigger and older).

SHOOT them ... with the CAMERA on your cell phone. A few times I have called the police ... but if they are as busy as you say, they will take an hour or three to come and take a report.

Letting idiots know that they have been caught on camera is a boost to their conscience (they are not the only ones that know what they did). This worked for me when kids harrassed a neighbour (I took photos of licence plates), hoons sped into a parking lot and made my wife step back, and a "cool dude" kept stopping and asking school girls if they wanted a ride.

Taking the law into your own hands is a bad idea because who decides which person gets to be in charge. What if the people you dislike decided to do the same? Maybe the police don't have time for loud music calls if they're trying to solve murders or drug rings or gang problems?

I suggest you buy a gun for your own protection and prepare to be sued if you opt to go this route....

For one to "take the law into their own hands" is never advisable, however, to be the "eyes and ears" to assist law enforcement is a commendable responsibility that should be shared by everyone including neighbors and co-workers.

If you see a problem, contact your local police who will respond to assist you with the problem. Should you be a witness to an offense, do the responsible thing and become involved so that thugs don't continue to invade our privacy and destroy our neighborhoods!

Best wishes!

The Police always appreciate extra eyes and ears. Taking matters into your own hands is not a good idea. It could get you hurt and arrested. The best advice I can give you is retreat to a safe location and call the authorities.

Loud motorcycles hurts my ears more than the loud music but you won't find a cop anywhere who will pull over one of them for loud pipes.

90% of cops are corrupt and the 10% that isn't doesn't want to make waves.

I think we should take matters in our own hands and snip a loud bike or a loud car stereo. Not kill anyone or even hurt them, just their loud makers.

Like the others said, call the Police. You don't have the authority, and no training, no weapons(Legally), so in other words, you are not a Police Officer. Call the Police when you see a crime, but do it at a safe distance. Your life is not worth losing so keep that in mind.

You cannot replace the Police although you can as a community
be their eyes and ears, protect yourself as best as you can so
that you do not become one of those victims of crime, mostly
support your local community structures against crime, but
first and foremost support your Police, volunteer do whatever
you can to take the pressure off them....They know the streets
they work them everyday...ALTHOUGH not one I support them...

And that being said, there are a few other things that you can
do, get security co...to work for you, report on crimelines either
openly or anonymously..............Do not let anything get by you
and people will soon get the idea that with you they are not
going to get away with anything......................................................

You can not police people yourself, but you can help those men
and women out there in their Policing.............................................
