I love the culture, the arts and the food! (Italians & Chinese love the garlic eh?) However, I dislike small number of rude teenage boys and taxi drivers.

I lived in Rome for a year and the first day I got there I took a cab. The fee was 35,000 and I paid 50,000 lira. The taxi driver took my bags out and pulled out a 5,000 lira saying that I'm tourist and I had made a mistake. It can't be, because the banks in US only issue 50,000 and 100,000 lira bills. He kept saying I owe him 30,000! I argue and threaten to call the cops. My friend gave him 30,000 just to make things "easier". I haven't taken a cab in Italy since.

Teenage boys always yell "Nakata!" or "Jacky Chan!" at me for no reason. (It's not a friendly gesture! They do it to show off to their friends!) They follow me around all the time. Getting in my frame to ruin my pictures. Sometimes they are grown men in their 20's and 30's. I was in shocked when a 6-year-old yelled at me. Something against East Asian, I suppose.

All in all, most people are very nice and friendly. I really miss it. Need to discipline the kids more.

Many years ago, my mother would walk with the Italians at whitsuntide. However, she was really pale and would have to cover her legs with gravy browning to pass off as italian. We laughed for many years about it, later to discover that we have some family who married into the Italianooooooo and they are ok - however, no one can make apasta likea mea - so you see something is kind of alright about people - whatever race - it comes down to the individual.

From my experience, Italians generally are exceptionally friendly and helpful with a cheerful demeanor. Mad about soccer, highly emotional and cook some of the worlds best food.

They are cool. I have quite a few Italian firends here in the UK.

Although all the Italian girls I have met in Italy are kind of snotty (no offence).
