I guess I should have elaborated more. Does a high compression ball as a rule travel further than a lower compression ball.

I would expect the high compression ball to be in contact with the club face less so it might have less spin. But would the lower compression ball because of the increased time in contact with the club (allowing more energy to be emparted) travel further in the air?

As far as compression rating i.e. the 90 or 100 (or sometimes 80) on the ball, it is a misnomer that all balls have compression. Only wound balls truly compress. All deform but the compression rating some guys talk about for their cheap Top Flites is wrong. Only the wound ball really compresses. As far as optimum distance, that depends on your clubhead speed.

The term compression relates to the feel of the ball on the clubface. It has nothing to do with spin and distance.

The less a ball compreses the faster it comes off the club face. A lot of it has to do with your swing speed

When we strike the ball it gets compressed and then elongates.
More the ball compresses more will the the ball roll after it lands.
