I've never heard of that. Most work 24/7 and holidays. I suppose it all depends on whether the ambulance service is privately contracted or still run by the hospital. This would mean that they don't have anyone available to fill in weekends. But that still isn't an excuse.

Wow, I have never heard of all emergency personal being off for the weekend, and I live in a small town. I would talk to someone, the city, the head of the Ambulance service, anybody who can change things.

It's a shame but true. Our VA hospital has no emergency room after 4pm,,,reason,,no money to run it. It's the same in a lot of places,,,why????? how to you expect the government to give the americans a grant for emergency room care when all that money is going to Iraq to help people who hate us???
PS. Here where I live there isn't even a 911 service. If you need help you have to call the police or a private ambulance service that will charge you or your insurance co. $ 585.00 to go to the nearest Hospital which is 25 miles away. Example,,when my G-daughter was hit by a car, she had to wait 30 min for emergency care.

Most ambulances are owned by private companies, and contracted out. So legally, they can make their own laws. But if I was in charge of hiring the ambulance company for my town / hospital, I would choose not to hire one that wouldn't work on weekends. That is just rediculous. Accidents and medical emergendies aren't biased to school days only.

If there are no ambulances, can't you call 911 for the firemen paramedics? Surely some entity is available for emergencies-- or what would they do if a bad car crash happened on Saturday morning? Leave the bodies there till Monday?

Go complain to your city, they can require ambulances to work on weekends. I've never EVER heard of ambulances being "off for the weekend", but I've also never lived outside of very huge cities..

Wow. I never realized that we had places that had such limited services. What is the point of 911 if we don't have ambulances going 24x7? What about the police or fire department? Some one could have come.

ambulances should work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year, with regular crew shifts of course.

Well hospitals are open on weekends, I'd think ambulances working on weekends would be a given.
