I think you have hit the nail on the head, it's the trying to be cool part that is annoying. If a person, any person, makes a concious effort to be cool then they just aren't getting it and are embarrassing. Young people tend to be more forgiving, or oblivious to, this sort of behaviour in their peers than their parents. Some of us just are cool parents, I know I'm a cool parent because my children tell me that a lot, and their friends do, and I don't embarrass them, not often anyway, and not during any effort to be cool because I never try to be. I'm not even sure I know what is cool.

I'm sorry, but I find my parents to be great. I love that I can talk to my mom about anything and know she has kept up with the times and is COOL enough to give good advice.
Some times were not trying to be cool.... We just are!

Kids who want their parents to be something they are not are very nasty... how would you like it if you werent to do anything you like and made you feel alive.
Why should you change what you like simply as you get older.
Plus why shouln't parents want to connect with you and have a better more loving relationship then they had with their parents and not turn into their asshole parents.
You should consider youself lucky as parents who are cool.
Will help with boyfriends and not be jerks who dont live in the real world.
Put yourself in their shows when your kids wont want you listing to the music you lie, or dancing or repressing you.
It shows you have no love for them and hurts them deeply

well parents like to think there cool and try to get along with your mates they make jokes sometimes think its funny but there only embarrassing them selves or you its just how they have grown up be thankful your parents at least ar embarrassin and can take a joke think of the children who ask a question and get wallaped =(

I think that everyone at some point in their youth is embarrassed by their parents, should the parents try to be cool or not.
It is part of growing up.

count yourself lucky, i'd like to see how you got on when kids were seen as nothing more than burdens who were put to work from the age of eight. looking at the youth of today parents are going wrong somewhere so you could be right maybe parents should stop trying to empathise with their children and stick to discipline.

It's normal to find your parents embarrassing. I would bearly walk down the street with my mother. I can't for the life of me see why now.She was perfectly normal and guess what my 15 year old son thinks I'm really embarrassing and it's so hurtful!!!

lol boo. THEY ARE PARENTS. THATS WHAT THEY ARE HERE FOR. 2 love us protect us provide 4 us and number 1 Embarrass US. (not all the time though. Just most of the time)
