commercial ketchup has alot of nasty artificial stuff in it, but organic ketchup is perfectly healthy. I make a nice taco sauce, with organic ketchup, horseradish, cumine, and a squeeze of lime. You can also easily make a fresh salsa with tomato, onion, garlic, etc in a food processor, which would be healthier than ketchup.

Actually Tomato Ketchup is not as unhealthy as you think. Because it has cooked tomatoes in it, it has a high source of lycopene in it (lycopene protects you against cancer).
I would recommend an alternative sauce to you but the best thing for you to do would be to go down to the sauce aisle in your local supermarket and buy a few sauces to experiment with.

Tomato ketchup is good for you. It is rich in lycopene, a cancer fighting agent. Try banana ketchup. It tastes the same but a little bit sweeter than the tomato ketchup. If you can go to an Asian store, there is this brand called Jufran Ketchup. It is made in the Philippines. Tastes awesome!

BBQ sauce. My girlfriend used to eat tomato ketchup (Heinz, of course) on everything as you describe. She now has BBQ sauce on everything. Maybe not the best as she's still not weaned off the sauce, but at least there is variety! You can get different types too- smokey, spicy, sweet etc etc

Why not make your own. The link is for "Tomato Catsup", you could use tinned tomatos and sweetener to reduce the sugar content.

You could also eat pasta sauces that have a high tomato content. Use tomato paste in other dishs such as stews and casseroles. Have grilled tomatos or tinned with your burgers sausages and fry ups

Try a Chimichurri Sauce. People in South America , especially Brazil, use it like ketchup.

In a food processor, add 6 minced garlic cloves, 2 chopped jalapenos, 2 limes-juiced, 1 bunch chopped flat leaf (Italian) parsley, and 1/2 c red wine vinegar. Add 1 c olive oil slowly while processing ingredients. Goes great with steaks or any meat.

well...you gotta start to eat food that doesn't need any ketchup along with, for example pasta dishes or better whenever you feel like to have same sauce especially with steaks have some gravy instead and drink some nice red wine(or beer) to wash it down.
junk food goes well with sauces....

There is no alternative to ketchup - once you've had red, nothing else instead!

Actually, it's not all that bad for you - lots of antioxidants and cancer fighting properties in mushed up tomatoes.

Okay, so there's the salt and sugar....

If I have a sauce at all that I haven't made myself, I prefer a fruit sauce, not just brown sauce, but fruit sauce, so much nicer.
