It can be as long as long as it has not been processed with extra sugar. Dried fruits are high in fiber, and have a very high nutrient density.

However most store-brands are coated with corn syrup to make them "shiny" and may be injected with additional sucrose or corn syrup.

Read the label.

You can buy a dehydrator and make your own dried fruit. Compare it in taste to the stuff from the store and you'll find it's not as sweet. It should have a more "natural flavor" but also more intense because there's no water to dilute the rest of the plant material.

Dried fruit has tons of sugar in it! The fruit has had time to convert large quantities of starches into sugar. That is what makes them taste so great!
Also we tend to eat far more of the dried fruit as it is not as filling as the actual juicy fruit. Lets face it you can eat a ton of dried apricots but only two or three of the juicy fruit.
Dried fruit is a good sorce of iron and vitamins so you dont need to cut them out of your diet, just cut down a bit.

Most dried fruit is packed with sugar. You really have to read the labels and choose carefully. I love banana chips and dried pineapple, but they are loaded with extra sugars so I have given them up for dried apples and apricots. Fresh fruit is always better for you though if given the choice!
