I'm spanish, my husband is american. My son was born in Spain 2 yrs ago. he has dual citizenship, he has spanish and american passports. Now, we are moving to the States, if somebody asks where he is from... Is he Spanish or American??

United States law states that when one parent is a United States Citizen, the child is automatically a United States citizen. When the other parent is not a US citizen, they are granted dual citizenship but still considered, for all intensive purposes, an American citizen. Therefore, your son should refer to himself as a Spanish American.

Stating that he was born in Spain but is a citizen of the US.

I just met a Cuban who is 46 lives in Miami for 40 years and denies being American. Says he is Cuban.
I assume at 2 years old its how you indoctrinate. Do like all the other people that come to the USA If the situation benefits him to be American then he is American. At all other times he is Spanish

He was born in Spain so tell them he is from Spain but has Spanish and American citizenship. because his father is American

He is American and Spanish. The dual citizenship allows him to claim his status to either countries. So Whatever he prefers to say.

Well, if your son was born in Spain then that is his heritage, but if someone asks who he is than he is Spanish American. I would guess.

Both Why can't he be proud to be an American and still be proud ofhis Spanishj heritage??

This is a wonderful thing, nothing to try to compromise.
American citzen, born in Spain.
Where is he from, well, if you now live in Miami and moved there from Cleveland, then he's from Cleveland.

if he was born in spain, then he is spanish...wherever someone is born at, he is that country..but dont worry about it, if he is american too, thats fine, with a passport, even better..

MY HUSBAND WAS BORN IN GERMANY.
HIS MOTHER IS GERMAN...HIS DAD IS AMERICAN.
HE MOVED OVER HERE WHEN HE WAS 4 YEARS OLD.

BY THE UNITED STATES INS LAWS.....
IF AT LEAST ONE OF THE BIRTH PARENTS ARE AMERICAN CITIZEN AND HAVE AT LEAST LIVED IN THE UNITED STATES FOR OVER 5 YEARS, THE THE CHILD IS ALSO A CITIZEN.

He is whatever you or he decides he is..... I suppose technically, if you live in the states, he would be an American with Spanish roots.
