I'm writing my own plan for a school district. I'd love to hear opinions from students, teachers, and parents alike. What are some things you like about the district you are in and what are some things you would change?

Don't over complicate the whole schooling process. Today's school boards have assistants to sharpen pencils. Also, given the fact that most children in school today can be considered illiterate, as well as some university grads, how about getting back to some basics, ie: arithmetic, reading and grammar. At the very least, teach children what the spell check button is for.

Our district is nuts. The grade school "preaches" to the students about the dangers of fire, then holds an assembly so the high-school can show them all the "cool" stuff you can do with it. My son got an "F" on a science paper because he did NOT draw a PICTURE of Thunder. When I went to school, thunder was a SOUND. Lightning was the site. Id get better teachers who know how to teach. THIS IS ONLY IN THIS DISTRICT. Most are good.

Create a financial responsibility class and make it required for graduation. Teach those about to enter the real world about complex financial issues like investments and mortgages. Teach them the consequences of irresponsible use of credit and how much debt they build up in college. My school taught me how to balance a checkbook. I knew more about writing a resume than how a 401 (k) works. I feel that if all school districts did this we would raise kids to become financially independent only a few years after graduation.

I feel like there are way too many extracurricular activities. Stick to teaching and life skills, and stop asking for more money all the time.
