The fact of the matter is, the United States you fought for no longer exists. The United States our grand-fathers fought for no longer exists.
United States 2007 is nothing more than an economic zone. Public policy is dictated by corporations. The common citizen no longer has a say anymore.
Our nation is now "Dell Computers", "Starbucks", "Microsoft", "GM", etc. You get the idea.
The feds could care less because they live in gated communities with armed body guards. Plus they get mega payoffs from corporations.
I'm so fed up with this country that I now only consider myself a Christian and a person of European decent.

Many politicans profit by hiring illegal immigrants. Same goes for their friends and political contributors. Now along come the bleeding hearts who say "All they're trying to do is feed their families". Bull, no one makes them get married and have children. I got an education and a good job before I took on a family so they would be provided for.
Other misguided people say, we're all a country of immigrants. More Bull. Most of the legal immigrant citizens of the US came here legally, so I don't understand why others should not be allowed to come here illegally and be showered with government benefits paid for by hard working US citizens.
Then we have the dead beats on welfare, SSI, Social Security disability etc. who won't work as long as they have food and shelter. (Not all people on these programs are dead beats but a very large number are, I would guess at least 50% from what I see in my hometown.) Illegals take many jobs that lazy poeple refuse to take and work for less money.
Another reason to employ illegals is to avoid paying taxes. They get paid cash and when they produce a product that can be sold for cash, it's never reported.
There would be no reason to have a minimum wage law if we kept illegal immigrants out. The law of supply and demand would take over and those now paying $5.15 an hour would have to pay $10 or more just to hire someone.
Crime would also decrease if illegal immigration was drastically curtailed.
Do a little research and find out how many prison inmates are illegal immigrants that we have to house, feed and provide medical care for. You'll be shocked. Illegals also smuggle a lot of drugs into the US.
Illegals not only break the immigration law but many others while here. They commit fraud in getting welfare, heath benefits, drivers licenses etc. I recently say a Yahoo question answered and they listed something like 17 laws illegals violate here.

I believe that the majority of informed Americans are on the correct side of illegal immigration. However, there are so many Americans that don't even know who the Vice President is, and they don't vote. Things won't change until we vote people into positions of power who will do more then just talk about illegal immigration.

Because Illegal Immigrants are allowed in to meet the demand of an underground labor market so farmers, constuction companies and sweat shops can obtain an under the table work force. The companies make bigger profits and give the politicians a cut. Who's screw?...Well obviously the homeless vets are one for sure. Who is the blame? Anyone who is selling out their own country to make a buck.

I care and I will always care what happens in this nation. I personally thank you for your military service,I am grateful for your sacrifices for me and all other legal Americans that are still enjoying our freedoms. We have our military men and women to thank for that.
There are millions upon millions of Americans that do care and we are doing what we can to help bring some sanity back to this nation.
American veterans didn't fight for Mexico or any other country. They fought for this nation ,they fought for you. Damn right they are owed something. They are owed far more than some illegal alien that will work for low wages and thus cut wages for the legal American seeking work. Have you tried the Viet Nam Veterans Outreach. ? Go to the American Legion, they will help you anyway they can.
Good luck to you my friend.
I don't think that legal immigrants can be compared to illegal aliens. But I can feel your frustration with our government.

American traders and citizens are selling their products and skills the world over including developing and under developed countries and you dont want other countries to sell their skills in your country..? What globalisation you have in mind, sir - a one way facility to siphon off the money of every other country - poor or other wise - through powerful publicity and other well known tactics that the industry and trade can play with a govt patronage unique to rich nations like yours... but would not have any other citizen to sell his skills in your lands... !
I can understand your frustration, because in our countries also people are fretting and fuming that local industry and trade are nearly edged out by powerful foreign investors... That the govt is not able to provide reasonable opportunities to the technocrats.. that the best talents are prepared to fly away to some far off lands to earn a few more money rather than toil for the country that supported and educated them so long...
The natives are unable to get a job in spite of their specialisations and even if one gets a job at length one is paid pittance compared to the equivalent of his specialisation in any rich nation... So a hand ful of upper middle class people sell their property or otherwise gather some money to travel abroad - to the Arabian or the West nations mainly - to earn a better income..
And the foreign countries also employ the immigrants not out of any sympathy to help them in preference to their native fraternity, but because the wages for which the former are prepared to toil are so competitive compared to the expectations of their citizens... So no charity is shown to the immigrants any way...
The world knows that the greatest benefactors of WTO are the rich nations who devise any number of methods to have an edge over their less fortunate counterparts across this planet... and have brutally edged out their weak native competitors.. There is exploitation of every kind all over..
So fight with your govt with all your points and I wish you well but do not talk of local Vs immigrants after reaping all the best for your business community under WTO.. I would rather hope that the people of all countries would prosper and allow others to prosper as well.

We are not letting the government do it. Some of us are quite active in addressing the problem. Everything from simply writing to our representatives to joining the Minutemen.
Every US citizen should boycott businesses where the employees speak Spanish. This is American, not North Mexico.

I'm with you, on certain issues. We need to take care of our own first. If there are tax breaks, freebies, etc., these need to be distributed among the citizens who are handicapped, elderly, etc. and not handed out to the immigrants.
However, where I live, immigrants do the jobs that noone else is willing to do so we have no argument there. If you lived here where vegetabel/fruit crops are grown, I would ask, "Are you willing to work those fields all day for minimum wages?"

You should have been a lifer then. Just because you were a veteran of a war doesn't mean anything. They call them retirement benefits for a reason.
