The FULL SCREEN DVD is designed for Square TVs.....

Both will work. I would buy the wide screen DVD's though. Why? Two reasons. 1 - you get to see the movie the way it was presented it the theater. and 2 - when you (one day) replace that sony and get a wide screen HDTV you will appreciate that you already have the wide screen version and don't have to go out and get it.

Either one will play. Full screen will fill the screen, where as wide screen will have black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.
