Oh , Simone. You already know in your heart. It's yin-yang.
A balance of good/bad, healthy/unhealthy, happy/sad.
You have to have a career unless you are wealth. The
problem is you have to find a career that you are
good at and like doing. I can't tell you how many people
go through the motions everyday of going to a job they
hate. So like what you do. Family that is a touchy one.
You have to be there physically and give of yourself
to be part of the family unit. What and how much
you give is a balance. We could always give more
of ourselves in anything we do. Only you know.
Sometime it's simply a gut feeling, but you know.
Mom no longer has the option to stay home.
But statistics now say that children from homes
where one parent was able to stay home and
even possibly home school are well rounded
adult. So many times these days the children get
put on the back burner. After all aren't your children
the reason you get married and raise a family.
Everything has to be in balance for career and family to flow.

I have both a career and happy home life. If it weren't for the career I do have (I'm the bread winner of the home) then our home life wouldn't be too happy. Somehow, I don't think you can have one without the other, but that's just my opinion of course. Money brings stability and so does a happy home life, but without money you don't have a home to go to.

I think that to trying to achieve a balance of both leads to a stable lifestyle. People have to spend so much time at work that it is important to have a career that is enjoyable and rewarding. When you leave your job at the end of the day you have to go home and it can create an unhappy and unpleasant atmosphere in the home if you are miserable and disatisfied at work. Also, having a well-paid job can help you to have a happy home life as you will be able to afford the things you enjoy doing in your spare time not to mention providing for your basic needs.

I was lucky enough to have both. I think a good career leads to a happy home life. When you bring your work problems home or you bring your home problems to work you cannot perform at 100% at either location...It appears to be an issue of cause and effect.

I think it's bad to go to work and stress everyday, so I think you need to have at least one or the other for sanity. If your job makes you unhappy, you need to have a stable home life to come home to to relax and unwind. If your stressed at home, then you'd better have a job that is rewarding and you are comfortable with, so you go to work to relax from home. But ultimately, it would be best to have both a home life and work life that are comfortable for you. Of course, you'll endure stressful times at one or the other at some point, but you will get through because the other part of your life is still stable. And vice versa.

In truth, one leads to the other. If you have a poor home life, it will flow into a miserable individual at work and you will become ineffective at work. If you are miserable at work, you will tend to allow it to affect you at home, taking it out on family. If you are truly happy at home, your workload will be a little easier to handle because you are working for your family. If you are happy with work, you will be able to leave work at work and seperate the two to provide a better home life for your family.
