It is just like a perm. First, they wash your hair. Then, They mix up this white goo, and spread it on your hair. It smells HORRIBLE and unfortunatrley whenever you wash your hair, it comes back until you shampoo, but after a while its not as bad. The top of your head at your roots will feel a little funny, because the realaxer makes your hair smoother and softer, so you can feel the top of your roots where it feels rougher. It definetly makes your hair stay down, but for extreme cases of poofiness, you will still have to straighten it. I got my hair relaxed a few months ago, and i love my hair now! I hope you enjoy your hair!

Go to a professional so they can examine your hair and tell you the kind you need to use. Relaxers can be upsetting if you don't use the right one.
Tips:
-Do NOT apply the perm yourself! Let a beautician do it...please!
- Do not scratch a few days before the perm, or else it will burn (not just a little either, but very badly) and they'll have to rinse it out sooner than it was supposed to stay on and you will not get the expected results.
- Once you've successfully gotten your perm, take care of it, keep it moisturized, and if you have thick hair like mine, get your hair washed and conditioned every two weeks. (People with different hair types have to wash their hair more often than others though...)
- Avoid getting hairstyles that pull on your hair tightly, it will cause breakage. i.e. Braids...
-Get yor ends clipped when you notice they start to split....
-once you've gotten your first perm, yuo have to go and get what you call touch ups. Which is getting the perm applied again. If you don;t go back and get your touch ups, your hair will damage and break off. this is why I said for your first perm, go to a beautician because they'll tell you when YOU have to come back for touch ups, ends clipped and wash and conditions.
I get my touch ups every four months though... and my hair washed every two weeks, but it's different for some....

If your going to a professional, they will put a chemical in your hair that will make it straight, then shampoo your have with a neutralizing shampoo, and they should use a conditioner. A relaxer can dry your hair, make sure you keep your hair clean and moisturizer and try to avoid as much heat as possible. If I were you I would just get my hair done professionally about every two weeks.

Ahh! Don't do it... I have naturally curly hair and I had it down a few years back. It totally ruined my hair. It was dry and damaged. Those chemicals are horrible for your locks. My hair quality didn't bounce back until all new growth had come in.
If you are serious about it though... they will put some gunk around your face to keep the chemicals from burning your skin, then they paint the crap on your hair and let it sit. Then its rinsed off, and poof... your done.

They put this chemical stuff on your hair, it smells weird and they smooth it out into a straight consistency on the hair strands. Then they wash it out and style it. If you have scratched you head or got it wet recently it will probably burn a little.
