First, avoid high school cafeteria food!! At seventeen, you're still growing, so you really don't want to "diet", per se. Try changing a few of your habits....do you drink a lot of pop or fruit drinks? Switch to water - buy yourself a large water bottle and drink 3 or 4 gallons of it a day. Walk rather than ride, stand rather than sit....just "up" your activity level a bit and you'll start burning more calories. Choose cereal in the morning instead of toast (never skip breakfast). Eat more often during the day instead of just having one or two meals, but snack on fruits and raw veggies, yogurt is good. And if in doubt read labels - avoid foods high in sugars or full of processed junk. And think LONG TERM - there are no quick fixes to weight loss, it's a lifetime thing. Good luck!!

tricks don't work. Just make some minor changes to your diet and exercise. Something small like keeping a diet journal can make a huge impact as it will make you more aware of what your caory intake is.
take at least 1 walk a day. walking is that easiest form of cardio. It is also very effective. The brisker, the better.
