Well, my kids get it very easily and many times do not have a fever. They usually have mild nausia, throbbing headache and it hurts when they swallow. And if a fever at all, it seldom peaks over 100. Very much low grade.
I took my little one in for a check up and her only presenting symptom was that the dr thought her throat looked inflamed. She had a strep test and it came back positive.
I am not a health care professional, just a mom sharing her experience so if you suspect strep at all- even with no fever, I suggest you see a dr.
Untreated strep can lead to other health calamities. Beter to be safe than sorry.
Good Luck,
JD

Yes, though not commonly.

Like most all infectious diseases, strep throat has a common presentation that is all too often not that common. Fever is an important factor that is frequently taken into account as a sore throat without a fever generally points more towards a viral source of the sore throat than a streptococcal source, but this is not a hard fast rule. Everybody's body reacts differently.

Currently, other things that point towards a sore throat being bacterial rather than viral are tender lymph nodes in your neck, a white exudate or film on your tonsils in the back of your throat, age (younger kids tend to get strep more often), and absence of a cough. All these added up generally just give you an idea of the probability of infection, however. Confirming the diagnosis requires a rapid strep test or, much more accurately, a throat culture. These are required because a young kid can present with all the signs of a strep throat and still not be found to have any strep growing there. And vice versa for someone with a much less common presentation.

Hopefully that, in a long drawn out way, sheds some better light on the subject for you.

Some people carry the strep germs without getting sick. You could reinfect her. Check with your doctor. My daughter gets strep easy, so when she has been on the antibiotics for a few days, we clean every door knob and surface in the house so she won't get sick again.
