How can I transfer my song library from WMP11 to an external hard drive and use the external HD to store audio/ visual downloads instead of the one on my PC.

the library itself in media player is really only a list of the song files and where they are...

to transfer the files, connect the external hard drive, open windows explorer, find the folder holding the .mp3 files and drag it to the external hard drive.

if you right click and HOLD the mouse button while you're dragging it,once you reach the destination drive and release the mouse button, you'll see the option of 'move' or 'copy'. choose 'move' so you don't have to go back and delete the original folder once you've copied/moved them.

once the files are moved, open windows media player, pull down the 'tools' menu to 'options' and click the button 'monitor folders' and let media player know where the files are now...

i connected an external to do the exact thing you want to do and have 13,500 .mp3 files and about 20gb of video files there.

oh yeah, don't forget to backup the files to CD/DVD before moving them and then maybe once every 6-12 months just in case.

it would be a terrible thing to lose a music collection and remember.... all hard drives do eventually fail whether it takes one year or twenty years so back up all your important stuff every now and then...

I particularly have it even nevertheless it particularly is in simple terms too sluggish for me so I hardly use it. Cool colorations nevertheless. I particularly have my music on I-TUNES. it particularly is a lot swifter. so some distance I`ve been in a position to function all yet 3songs. i assume because of the fact of copyright regulations or something. All 3 have been pink Floyd tunes. It kinda sucks because of the fact they're MY cds. bought and paid for. as quickly because it replace into unable to verify what replace into on the disc and gave me 2 options. for sure I chosen what I paid for. I even have NERO which appearently won't reject something. Now my in basic terms concern is area on my workstation. i'm complete and function in basic terms uploaded 25% of my cds.
