I'm not saying I am one. Just that you never see them with a life partner and I'm wondering if their appearance is off-putting. I know they spend a lot of time at sea but they all retire sooner or later!

why not? They've got a lot of life experience, got most of the urges out of their system and are probably ready to settle down. Will be full of great stories about places they've been, things they've seen. I can't see why they couldn't find a special woman - there is more to a relationship than looks!

What's wrong with pirate type? If they look like Depp, hell they can come over anytime. I think the older sea dogs spent a lot of time away and wives weren't on their agenda. You know the old saying, a girl in every port.
Maybe that is why they are alone in their old age.
And yes, an old sea dog can have a place in my heart. But I don't know one.
