I admit, this is going to sound silly........I have a friend who is the mother of a 5 year boy old who seems to be going through a funny phase. Very simply, he has been trying to get her, and even other grown women to sit on his lap! She thought this was funny for a while, but she is getting tired of telling him "no", and trying to explain why it will not work. Is this strange? Has anyone ever heard of this before? She is wondering where this came from and is ready for him to get over it. Any ideas?

My son is three and every now and then he'll be silly and tell me to sit on his lap. He does it because he sits in my lap all the time and he knows its not logical. I just sit on him (gently) and kind of bounce up and down on his legs and say "man this cushion is lumpy" or something like that. I don't actually put my weight on him or anything. But he doesn't do it all the time.
Maybe your friends' son is copying someone. Maybe he sees mommy sit in daddy's lap (nothing dirty intended by that) Kids like to mimic and do some strange things.

It seems that the kid has been spending a little too much time in daddy's office. There is really not a lot funny about it, your friend should talk to her kid to learn where exactly this came from. It sounds like she's been alowing for the behavior to continue without thinking how it started till now. There is something to be learned there.

I dont think it is anything to worry about. My daughter is 3 and she asks grown women only to sit on her lap from time to time. Just tell her to actually do it. Chances are the weight of a grown adult on his lap will actually make him not enjoy this and help him to stop. It is what I do with my daughter. I dont put all my weight on her or I would kill her but just enough to make her uncomfortable so she will not keep asking me about it all day long. I think it just has to do with them being on your lap so much maybe they want to return the favor

Hes a kid, hes 5 years old, hes just imatating what he sees the 'grown ups do" I would never worry about that. Like any 5 year old, they will get bored with it and move on to something else.
When YOU where 5, what did you do that your mother told you you about later that You did! And we all turned out ok.

it would merely be that he needs to play the area of the grown up. Did he sit down on peoples laps alot? it would properly be that he sees this as a position of an grownup. if it really is the case, this is merely him attempting to be a large-guy. it will be a fantastic theory to provide him responsability indirectly to make him sense extra major or grown up. possibly his mom could have him help out with cooking each once in a lengthy time period or possibly he would have a goldfish or hamster that he's to blame for feeding. Personaly, the subsequent time he starts off act this kind i'd tell him that people do not opt for to sit down down on his lap, yet she needs him to help in a unique way, alongside with helping with cooking, helping to preserve the fish, or in spite of else he can help with. If it doesn't help, then no damage performed.

Grown women only? Hmmmmmmmm. Seems too specific to be just a phase. She should take him for a walk and ask him some seemingly casual questions like "why do you want mummy to sit on your lap?".........."Doesn't it/Won't it hurt when i sit on your lap?"........"Shouldn't babies alone sit on laps?" ......."Who do you see sitting on laps?"......."whose lap?"

Could be something to be concerned about or could be he just wants to be cuddled like a baby again..........................? Any younger siblings?
