In America, go to your county clerks office. There you will fill out a form. You will need to bring your birth certificate, and a 2 inch photo (you can have it taken at many post offices or photo shops, even most AAA stores) Since you are 16, you will need to bring one of your parents with you. I believe that it will take you 60 days to get a passport; however, you can get a rush one for twice the price. The price of a standard passport, when i purchased it, was 67 dollars. I also believe that you have to pay by money order. If you call your local county clerk, they will tell you exactly what you need to bring with you. For more information, you can visit the Department of State website at http://travel.state.gov/ . Good luck, and enjoy your trip!

you can get your passport photo taken in the post office and boots etc and train stations. Remember to get the picture checked at the post office to ensure that it will be ok with the passport office before you get it signed etc.

The post office offers a passport check service which is always worth it.

And you'll be in... which country?

In the UK, apply to the passport office. Get a form from your local post office. Get your pictures taken there as well, or at a big railway station with those photo-me booths, or some Boots, shopping centres, etc.
