There are two reasons family members (except for spouses) are off limits for intimate relationships.

1) you run the risk of pregnancy with genetic problems in the child.

There is a reason you don't date/sleep with coworkers - if something goes wrong, you still have to be around them. There is no easy way to break up. With a family member, that's even worse. You can quit your job, you cannot quit your family.

I dated and became involved with two people who are members of my dojo. We all fell in love. The relationship lasted 10 months. I won't go into why the relationship failed, but it did. Now I face the excruciating task of either quiting my martial art (which I've invested 11 years of my life) or being around two people who I still love, who hurt me deeply, and whom it hurts just to see and moreso to interact with. If this were a family member, I cannot imagine what I'd do.
