You will need to try a different SSRI. Each one has a different effect on different people. Effexor might be a good one to try.

Stay away from the old tricyclic anti-depressants; they are pretty much guaranteed to pack on the lbs.

I'm all for aggressive treatment of anxiety and depression with meds, but you really need an integrative approach that includes a few minutes of meditation, yoga, or exercise several times a day.

Hang in there! You're in my thoughts.

ps - Just because the Paxil isn't working for you now and is probably causing your weight gain, it can have a completely different effect on you in the future. One of my pals lost piles of weight the 1st time she was on Prozac; 5 years later when she tried it again, she gained 15 lbs.

PPS - The SEX recommendation is a very good one. It floods your body with "good" chemicals vs. the stress ones. And it is perfectly effective done alone, if need be.

I know that meds do people differently, but I am also taking Paxil Cr and I have actually lost weight. Maybe you need to discuss this with your doctor and have him recommend something that is more appropriate to you. Sometimes it takes a great deal of trial and error to find the meds that are right for an individual. Please do not stop taking them until you have spoke to your doctor. the anxiety may become worse if you stop abruptly.

Good Luck!

Anxiety runs in my family, and Xanex is the prescription of choice because obesity also runs in my family. It's worked great and we've had no intances of weight gain.

However, your safest bet it to discuss it with a healthcare professional, preferably the doctor who prescribed you the Paxil.
