YOU! Launching potshots across the Atlantic at people that support a strategic military operation, that they themselves haven't fought in. What a truly childish and naive stance. I also support firefighters, though I have never put out a burning building. I also support the police, though I have never apprehended a murderer. Does that make me a coward ? Maybe in your third-grade mindset, which is of no consequence to me whatsoever. You are such a coward you delete answers of those whom give you a taste of your own medicine. Now that's bravery for you.

You might put it the same way that General Patton did:
"The object of war is not to die for your country: it's to make the other poor dumb bastard die for his country."

The idea that people should fight in order to gain honor from killing people is a ridiculous, antiquated, and barbaric concept. The US Soldier does not fight to "put notches on his belt" by facing down someone (in your words) in range. The US soldier fights to accomplish stated objectives which will ultimately result in decisive victory because of the gains that follow that victory. For that reason, we have no use for standing toe to toe and slugging each other with attrition battles, we'll win in the most effective and efficient way possible to ensure that we maintain the capability to protect the US Citizenry with the minimum number of friendly deaths possible.

Kinda like poking a stick through the fence at a mean dog. You're brave until you realize the gate is open.
