My fiance says that it is insulting for someone who's not a Catholic priest to wear the white collar. I say there is no restriction as to religion, although they must be a qualified member of the clergy to validly do so. If you have links to any "proof" one way or the other, I would appreciate it!!!

Actually, Catholic deacons are also allowed to wear a clerical collar.

Many protestant ministers wear collars, too. But I have only seen Catholic priests and deacons wear black shirt with the collar. Protestants generally wear other color shirts.

In other countries, priests may wear different color shirts. We had a priest form India at our parish, he wore pastels and beige.

The Catholic Church has no rules governing other churches. That would be meaningless. Orthodox priests wear the collar. So do Anglican and Epicopalian ministers, and I believe a few other Protestant denominations do as well.

I don't what the Catholics have to say about it, but clergy from many denominations wear the same white collar.

Actually anyone can buy and wear a collar. They are available for purchase at many religious stores. How unfortunate that some people are not fully prepared to wear the collar do so. Many do not attend any type of seminary, just do their own study without knowledge of history, geography, languages and the times. Thanks to those who do!

primoa is right.
The Roman Catholic church has left the bible to follow man's traditions.
There are many who wear collars including Lutherns.
My preacher wears a suit and is married with kids as the bible teaches a overseer/pastor/leader must be. Overseer is same as priest/pastor/preacher/minister.

1 timothy 3:1" Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect. 5(If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church?) 6He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil. 7He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil's trap."
