I think that they are soulful and melancholic. The fado, the national song, relects this. They are very fond of their word "saudades", which in fact has an equivalent in Welsh as "hiraeth". This suggests a connection between the two peoples. They are warm and friendly and hospitable. In bullfights the bull never dies, which is such a relief. I have just one objection to Portuguese men: they spit more than any men I have ever come across. A stroll through the streets of Lisbon should be enough to prove my point!

I have been to Portugal a couple of times, once when I was a teenager. It hink they are great people. When you arrive at the train station in Portugal you will see motherly types waiting and they will offer you accomodation. That sounds scary and weird but that is their way of life and a great way to experience Portugal and family life. They are hones, and still have a simplicity of life we ahve lost here. Their life is about fundamentals. They have been a great additional member to the europemna community. Portugal is to die for as a country. It has a natrual beauty, a real gem. It is not expensive to buy property in Portugal at the present time, though that will change down the line. You have got me thinking

The question should be "What is your opinion of the Portuguese?"

Absolutely no opinion. Never been to Portugal and the only Portugese people I've met are people in Goa of Portugese descent. Its one of those countries that is never mentiond in the news and doesn't really seem to feature on the world stage to any degree at all.

The Portuguese Man-o-war is one mean jellyfish. Actually my brothers class-mates sister is one, got the biggest tentacles in her class.
