I would be very cautious if a person would not tell me the reason he was in jail. My husband was in jail and had been involved with drugs when he was a teenager. He was completely up front with me and honest. If he hadn't told me why he was in jail, I would not have been with him even though we are extremely compatible. He has cleaned up his act and doing well.
I would not be friends with someone who had a criminal record and didn't tell me the reason. It could be rape, child molestation, check forgery, driving without a license, etc. But I am responsible for protecting myself and making sure a dangerous person isn't around my family because of my mistakes.
If my husband would not tell me what he was in jail for, he would have been trying to take control of the situation and tried to prevent me from deciding for myself if I wanted to deal with his past. Because he told me, it was something I knew I could handle and he had proved himself to me. He allowed me to choose if I wanted to be friends with him or not.

If he was in a local jail he would have had to have gone through the Criminal Justice System in that locality.
Yes you could check this for free by going down to the Criminal Court and checking for his name in the "Criminal Docket" as this will advise you of what crime he has been charged with and the details of the Trial and punishment.
Or check and see if it is possible to obtain this information from the County Website if they have one.
Good luck!

All criminal arrest records are open to the public unless it is a juvenile or a pending case. Go to the local Sherrif's Office and look it up through civil records. If you have a freind in Law Enforcement, they could assist you.

Has he committed a crime against you, because if he has'nt
you do not have a right to this information, you are not going into
business with him....Stay away from people with criminal
records, so that you do not get implicated in anything else.....
If he is doing something call and tell the Police, do not
try to find out and create mischief for him yourself....................
