I make a seasoning pouch or bouquet garni with bay leaf, rosemary, thyme, whole peppercorns ....wrapped in cheesecloth and tied....I let that cook with the stew...I also use salt, pepper, garlic, onions, celery, carrots, potatoes, turnip which help to flavor.....then I lightly dust the meat with flour and brown before I add to the pot....I deglaze that pan with red wine and let it reduce and add that to the crock pot....I also use beef broth and water rather than all water.....it is delicious...good luck

make a seasoned flour of
flour
salt
pepper
1 tsp mustard powder
1 tbsp of mixed herbs
toss the beef in the flour and then shake off the excess flour and fry in one tablespoon of groundnut oil, add the excess flour and mix well add 300ml of Guinness and 1 and half pints of beef stock
to this add 1 tablespoon of tomato puree and 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, add casserole veg to the pot and leave in crock pot for four hours serve with crusty bread and a big glass of red wine !

McCormick sells a seasoning packet just for beef stew and it is wonderful. I use that and a can of basil garlic stewed tomatoes in my beef stew and it comes out great!!!

I usually have to add them 'to taste' as most recipes say, but I use onion salt, garlic powder and lemon pepper. I will dash in some worcestire sauce as well.

Salt and pepper, thyme, sage, and marjoram. I don't really measure but I think it works out to a half teaspoon of each.

I always panfry it with a bit of flour, garlic, cumin, salt and whole peppercorns....and then crock it...it makes a nice gravy and tastes wonderful every time....
