The main difference between the kings of Israel and leaders of other nations of that time was that the Israelite kings were human. Pharaohs and leaders in other lands were all made into gods. That is one of the main lessons we learn in the Hebrew Bible -- our leaders are accountable to, and protected by, the same laws as the most lowly slaves. The Bible was accessible to everyone so that the laws had to be applied equally to all.

David,The King of Israel was the leader of the Client Nation to God at that time.
The USA is the client Nation to God now.
We are in a time of historical disaster.
David has given us Psalms to help us have happiness and protection. The size and strength of the evil nations that attack us do not matter.
Psalm33:20,21,22
"Our soul waits in confidence for the Lord.
He is our help and our shield,
in Him our hearts rejoice.
May your unfailing love rest upon us,
oh Lord, even as we put our hope in you".
Dueteronomy33:29
"Happy are you o Israel
who is like you, the people who are
given the victory by the Lord?
Who is your shield, your protector, your
glorious sword?
Your enemies will cower before you and you will trample down there high places".
The terrorist haven't got a chance.
The Doctrine of the Shield has and will protect us.
Our military was not prepared, but God and his elect angels are.
A fellow prayer warrior.
Peace out.

God has been and will always be the king of Israel. He got real sick and tired of listening to them whine about not having a king so He gave them Saul, but he didn't work out so good and David took the reins from there. It's a great story and you should read it sometime.

To placate the people.
They were tired of being ruled by God through His judges.
