because they believe that someday it will work, or maybe theyre just stubborn.

Some people pray and lie to other people that thier prayers get answered, when thier prayers are left unheard, or worse, the opposite of the payer happens.

I am a person who has been given a special gift by the Holy Spirit of God (as all Christians get some Gift when they become a Christian). My gift happens to be what they call Intercessory Prayer. This means that, if I pray for someone (but not myself usually) and it is basically along the lines of what God would answer (so no praying for "Joey to kill his stupid ex-wife because the b**ch put him in prison for 6 months!") then there is a much greater chance of God answering it for the person because I prayed for it. Weird huh? I just thought you should know that I have seen endless tanks of heating oil where a 275 gallon tank should have run out way over a month ago (a full 275 gallons in this house I am talking about gets used up in less than a month like 90% of the time and NEVER goes beyond 5 weeks...EVER) I saw it last nearly 3 months. No, the Oil refueling Guy never came 'cause I was the only one who could authorize it. That is just one prayer I am talking about. I have seen a car whose front passenger side tire had a gash in it almost to the center where the air was and part of the radial was sticking out the side of the tire...that tire went 75 miles per hour for about 190 miles in one day...and it still never even lost a little air...we took it to a station finally to fix it, I got out of the car, looked at it, and it looked a little worse, but no air loss. We went inside to talk to the guy to have him put on a new tire and all that...it took 5 minutes to talk to him and when I went back outside, the thing was so flat it looked like someone acutally sucked out extra air on top of just going flat from the weight of the car. The Pope is Catholic. They don't quite have it right. I am a Christian who does not follow religion where all these rules made by man are enforced. I believe in the Bible and God says if you change any part of it, you are in deep doodoo...and guess what? The catholics changed it...a lot. God Bless You!

If we pray according to God's will God will answer our prayer. This is possible if we pray as led by the Holy Spirit as He is the One who knows the will of God. The Pope prayed for peace and this could have led to less violence and conflict. We know that real peace can only come when Jesus Christ, the Prince of peace, establish his rule on earth. But on a personal level things are less complicated and God can certainly answer our prayers with outstanding results.

Of course prayer works! I have personally experienced it more than once. It's true that sometimes you get a 'no', and often later, when you look back, you thank God that he had said no. But sometimes he says yes and even works miracles.

One day my ex-husband was in excruciating pain after an operation. Nothing relieved the pain: not the pain pills nor the injection the doctor said would knock him out. By 2 that night I told him that we had tried everything but prayer, and we called ourselves Christians! So I prayed a simple prayer, but felt a bit silly and didn't expect anything. As I opened my eyes, he said that the pain had gone. It was only two days after the operation and it had completely gone, not to return again. The experience was quite mind-blowing and strengthened my faith in God and his love.

Selfish and unrealistic prayer isn't unheard, but it is unheeded. People pray a loved one will not die, but they die regardless. That's selfish prayer.
Praying for world peace is foolish prayer. World peace will never be accomplished until God intervenes and we will probably never live to see that with our own eyes.

So when, or if you pray, make sure it's for the right thing. One good thing to pray for would be spiritual evolution.

PS read "The Urantia Book" along with the New Testament ( red letter edition )

Why do you assume such things happen instantaneously and miraculously?

The Pope praying for world peace does help.

Prayers do work.

Praying doesn't always mean you are going to get what you want. Praying is showing God you have faith that he is going to do what He feels is right weather we like it or not.

People on this planet have been given the unique opportunity to make decisions for themselves. We decide to pick up a gun and shoot someone else, to drink and drive, to hurt someone else, God doesn't like it, but he gives you choices, it's up to us to make the right ones.

Prayer does work, has worked for me and countless others I know, though sometimes the answer to our prayers is no.

I can give you many examples and testimonies of people who have had their prayers answered, and have seen miracles that cannot be explained, but I suppose you will not believe or accept it

Prayer only works consistantly for those who are Children of God. The Pope is not one, sorrrry!
