That's a very strange topic for a presentation.

Cigarette vending machines are getting rare - though you still see them in a lot of bars where you have to be 18 to get it (and then they charge $5.00 for a pack, and you have to feed the stupid thing quarters.

Most likely they just have a very basic set of logic circuits, that start by counting the coins as they are inserted, once the correct amount is reached, it allows you to select which product you want by pressing a letter and number combination that correlates to the row and column that the selected product resides in.

Once the number is entered, there is probably some kind of screw drive that is activated for a preset amount of time to push one pack of cigarettes In most vending machines the product is spring loaded from the back to keep it in place - or sometimes individual packages are placed into a type of screw drive that pushes them forward as it rotates. Either way, the machine is activating a solenoid that makes the motor turn, and the pack will fall down the front of the machine into the receptacle where you can pick it up.

Then the change is transferred from the initial holding/counting section into the main holding section (that way if the user decides to not buy the cigs, then they can press the coin return to get them back).

You're best bet is to call the service numbers that are on the actual machines. You'll get in touch with service people who's jobs are to repair them. They should know how they work. Also, call up the manufacturer. They'll no doubt have specs for you you'll never find on the Internet.

Always go to the source.
