You can get tube HDTV's that are around 500 bucks. They have a really good picture suprinsingly. They actually put out a higher resolution than any other type of HDtv, but the biggest size I have ever seen was 32''. Wal-mart has a real nice phillips 30'' widescreen hdtv with built in hd tuner for 500.00.

When my fiance and I went HDTV shopping, the best deal we could come up with was $1,000 and it isn't the "best" HDTV out there. So, even though on a budget, we bought it anyway. (It was on sale for $500 off)

DLP's are a good value. You can get a bigger screen for less money. From what I hear they have a GREAT picture, and are an overall very nice TV. They do need the bulb replaced about every 2-3 years, that's $200 every 2-3 years. The bulb is really the only negative I've heard. Also, DLP's are not wall mountable. The Mitsubishi 52 in. has got excellent reviews. Circuit City has it at about $1600.

Depends on "best deal"
Hi Def's depending on the size and type you want, can be costly.
