Golden rule? Okay. Stoning a non-virgin bride? Not so much

Christian do follow the Bible in its entirety. Your confusion comes from a misunderstanding of what the Bible says. In your "stoning comment", you are reading the Levitical laws as moral applications (as many seem to do). It is important not to confuse the moral law with the civil law. The civil laws were laid down for a certain people, in a particular place and time. There are many Levitical laws that appear to be odd on the surface... some of those can be made more clear when one understands the culture of that time. Issuing a law (with a prescribed penalty) is one thing, actually "prosecuting to the full extent" of that law is another. While many laws were morally based, "personal application' really isn't the intent. Civil laws are based on justice. So, while "turn the other cheek" is an excellent personal application of the moral law...an "eye for an eye" is also an excellent application for civil law and justice...

Christians are obligated to follow the Bible in its entirety. Thus we read at 2 Timothy 3:15-16: "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." [NIV]

So, why is it no longer obligatory for adulterers to be put to death at the mouth of two or three witnesses? Because the Mosaic law covenant – all 613 statutes and regulations – including this death penalty for adultery - are no longer in force. Does that mean we can commit adultery? No. Why? Because the Christian Greek Scriptures – commonly referred to as the 'New Testament' - prohibits all fornication, including adultery.

True worshipers do not cherry pick the Bible. They do, however, take the time to study it and come to an accurate knowledge of its teachings.

Christians are not saved by obeying the law. That is something Satan convinces people of. "Oh, you were speeding, you go to hell!" or "Oh, you ate shrimp, you go to hell!" Once people break the law they think they are "damned forever".

Christians put their faith in Christ and in putting their faith in Christ the become examples for non-Christians.

This is kind of like playing in a sport. You play in a sport because you love the sport. You do not play so you can become an example, a role model or a hero to millions of people. In becoming good at your sport you become an example, a role model or a hero to millions of people.

If you were to try to become a role model by being good at sports you would probably fail. You become a role model because you were good at sports.

A lot of people want the success and do not want to be role models.

Playing sports you are going to break some rules, either accidentally or on purpose. Maybe your trainer receives instructions from the owner to put you on steroids without your ever knowing it. Owners have a lot invested in players and some want their players to become the "best" they can be. Maybe you take steroids because you want to.

With God you are always caught, you just have to accept that you are not perfect and ask forgiveness.

With people you probably will not get caught and if you are, depending on how charismatic you or the prosecutor is and how good or charismatic your lawyer is, you are punished and never forgiven.

People have more in common with Satan then God.

The death of Christ on the cross was the accomplishment of the Law when we transitioned from the Law to Grace.

John 19:30 - When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Had Christ been accepted as Christ under the Law, as interpreted by men, the Law would have continued. Since Men strayed from God by misusing the Law to crucify the Messiah we were released from the Law. Man was found inadequate to understand God's Law.

This is why we have the Holy Spirit, so we can understand scripture.

It would be impossible to follow the entire Bible word for word because it is full of contradictions. This is because the Bible is not one book but a collection of many, written at different times by different people for different reasons.

Also it has been translated, re-translated and interpreted many times from the original Greek, Aramaic etc., there are many versions in print today and Christians still debate today over what it means.

Line up a hundred Christians, give them a quote from the Bible, ask them what it means and you'll probably get a hundred different answers.

The same is true of other holy scriptures - different groups and individuals within the religion interpret them differently.

You have to study the book to understand it. I don't have the five or six years to write in this space for you. You will have to do that on your own. Too many people draw up what seems to be obvious contradictions. These people are the biblical illiterate; and trying to succinctly explain God's word to them is like mailing a haircut. Won't work.
You have a question. I can only direct you to live your question.
Go back to the source of your confusion and study it. In time you will have an answer. But I don't think you are going to get a satisfactory answer on a public forum.

Come on carl, this is an easy one! The Golden rule (fufilled in the Ten Commandments) is a set of Moral law that was set in place to be used as a general rule of thumb about how we should live throught all of our generations. in other words, The Moral law was meant for all people, Thats How God has meant it to be and thats exactly the context in whcih it is written in the Bible. Now, the stoning of a Non virgin bride. This refers to a set of laws given specifically to the srealites at that time. it was given to those people in that context, and is not meant to be contiuned today. if you wil read the entire Bible in context, the moral Law (ten Commandments) and the Golden rule are continued an reiterated throught the entire Bible from beginning to end, howveer we do not see such a reiterated theme about stoning virgins. Thats because certain laws such as these and the levitical laws were given to Moses from God as a social norm for the people of whom was under that covenant. we are Now also under a new covenant, a new covenant God set forth from the begging to save mankind. but why? let me explain by asking you a few questions. You aksed why christians dont follow the "moral Compass", were going to see if you have kept Gods holy law (ten Commandments), because when you face him on judgement day you will give an acount to him. lets see how you do.

Have you ever lied, stolen, lusted, coveted, or been angry with someone unjustly? If so, then you have broken the Law of God. God has said "You shall not steal; You shall not lie; You shall have no other gods before Me; You shall not murder, you shall not covet, you shall not commit adultery ect. you get the picture. if you have broken these commandments, then you are under the inevitable judgement of God. The Law is a reflection of the character of God. Therefore, to break God's law is to offend God and deny the holiness of His character. This is why God will by no means overlook your sins, He is Holy and Just and nothing you have ever done is hidden from his Holy eyes. The penalty for your sin is hell. The good news is that christ died for us, we broke Gods Law, but the punishment was laid upon Christ. Now God commands Men everywhere to repent (turn from sin) and trust in Christ and be saved, because he has appointed a day in which he will Judge the world in righteousness. will you be ready?

Because Jesus came and freed us from legalism. Mosaic law had been handed down by God to form a nation. It was also to show us that we are unable by ourselves to be holy and without sin. But then Jesus came to fulfill the law and to add to the commandments to love. So, instead of stoning an adultress, he said that only he who is without sin should cast a stone. Nobody threw anything. Instead of an eye for an eye, Jesus said turn the other cheek. Our moral compass should point us towards what is most loving. Not that we should turn a blind eye towards sin, but the sin we should be most concerned about is our own.

Please cite your reference to the stoning of a non-virgin bride. Also, remember, while the Bible contains many good and godly things, it was written by man. It has been changed many times over in the last few thousand years and has lost many truths and precious things. It is also a history, not just a strict list of commandments from God.

If you had ever read the Bible in it's entirety, you would know. And by the way, the word Christians would be written with a capital "C".
Do you homework before asking a question of that nature. Your ignorance doesn't offend me, but it could offend other 'true' Christians

John 1:1
In the begginning was the WORD(bible),and the Word was with God and the Word was God.

True Christians should...because if you dont believe in the whole of the Word you dont believe in the whole of God!

It not just a moral book, its also a history of the world and a message book to the people of God.

Catholics dont believe in the whole Bible . Some Protestants dont believe in the bible. But to be a true believer you must believe in the whole of his book.
