Very Good Question.
I had Virgin installed yesterday and I was not that impressed with the service.
Having said that, I had Sky until then and was not impressed with their service either.
If you want to watch shows like
Bones, Battlestar, Cold Case, Lost, Nip/Tuck, Stargate Atlantis, Stargate SG1, The Simpsons, Tru Calling, The 4400 and Over There.
Then, realistically, you only have 1 choice now, Sky.
Sky's good points..... (IN MY OPINION)
Sky one, (The Only place to watch the above shows) as well as Sky 2 & 3.
More HD Channels Available.
Sky Movies 9 + 10 are HD, Sky Sports HD, Sky One HD, Sky Arts HD, National Geographic HD, History Channel HD, Discovery HD and Sky Box Office HD.
Sky packages are cheaper.
Sky's Bad points..... (IN MY OPINION)
Sky HD Box Cost £300
Sky + Box Cost £100
National Rate Phone Number. Often kept on Hold for hours whilst paying for the privilege.
Virgin's Good Points..... (IN MY OPINION)
FREE HD box (saving £300).
Supposedly the best for Broadband speeds.
Free call to customer services if you have your phone with them. Otherwise local rate number.
Virgin's bad points..... (IN MY OPINION)
V+ box is very slow.
No sky one.
Only HD channel is BBC HD (other than on demand)
Even if Virgin Media do a deal with HBO then you still will not get all the popular US Shows. So unless they can do a deal to secure all the top US shows (OR/And cut their Prices) then they stand to lose a lot of business.
I have already cancelled my contract as they cannot provide me the services that they said they could, thus breaching their agreement, so I am quite lucky as many are not able to do this, and I feel for them.
Until such times another service can provide me with the top US shows and more HD Channels I will continue with the built in freeview, even though there is not a lot of choice channel wise.

Sky are taking over the world charging ridiculous amounts, stealing shows from other channels. Don't pay for either. Get freeview and wait for stuff to come on.

Virgin seem to be expensive but as my broadband is currently working through this I am reluctant to change.
