I have a one year old westie ...spayed and whenever someone comes to our house she meets them at the door and piddles on the floor in her excitement...I have even tried to let her out before company arrives and she still piddles(pees) on the floor when she is excited..otherwise she is very good about the housebreaking. And luckily it only happenes by the door on the linoleum floor so it is easy to clean up. She is a very smart dog so I feel she should be able to control herself. Is this behavior problem?.. a weak bladder? will it ever stop? I can tell she feels bad but she still does it.

P.S. on a check up after sugery...the vet said that this problem was behavoral meaning with proper training it would stop...which is why I mention her obviously feeling bad when this happens becuase she has verbally been repremanded hoping that she would try harder...she does not seem to be able to help it and she is the type of dog who would stop If she could...she loves to please!

It sounds like your pup is exhibiting submissive urination. This is usually seen in a dog that doesn't have a lot of confidence or feels somewhat threatened in certain situations. The link below explains it much better and will give you some hints you can try. First, though, take your westie to the vet to rule out any physical problems! Good luck!

You may ask your vet. Sometimes during surgery like a spay puppies can get a little kink in their bladder that will eventually spread out again. Anyway that may be it. My beagle had that problem when she was younger. By the time she was 2 she had fully expanded her bladder again.
