Neurology is the study of the nervous system. Usually it applies to human neurology (the study of the human nervous system) and is of course studied by Neurologists.

These guys are doctors who are supposed to know a lot about the human nervous system and in particular about the diseases of the nervous system. They spend many years studying it over and above their general doctor qualifications.

A good place to start learning about neurology would be the wiki page. Other places to look would be your local library or the library of your local university. There are bound to be some books about neurology there. The wiki page has some other links you can follow which are mostly quite helpful.

neurology

Medical specialty concerned with nervous system function and disorders. Clinical neurology began in the mid-19th century, when mapping of the functional areas of the brain first began and understanding of the causes of conditions such as epilepsy improved. The development of electroencephalography in the 1920s aided in the diagnosis of neurological disease, as did the development of computed axial tomography in the 1970s and nuclear magnetic resonance imaging in the 1980s. In addition to dealing with physical disorders (e.g., tumours, trauma), neurology is unique among medical specialties in its intersection with psychiatry. Greater understanding of the brain chemistry of disorders such as schizophrenia and depression has led to a wide array of effective drugs that nevertheless work best in conjunction with psychotherapy. Side effects of drug or surgical therapy can be serious, and many nervous system disorders have no effective treatment.

Neurology is the study of the brain and nervous system. Neurology is a very complex topic, because the brain itself is very complex, in fact we only use a small percentage of our brain and scientists are trying to learn how we can increase this.

To learn more about neurology you really need to be more specific are you asking about a specific neurological disorder?

As cited by wikipedia:

Neurological disorders are disorders that affect the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord), the peripheral nervous system (peripheral nerves - cranial nerves included), or the autonomic nervous system (parts of which are located in both central and peripheral nervous system). Neurologists also diagnose and treat some conditions in the musculoskeletal system.

Major conditions include:

* headache disorders such as migraine, cluster headache and tension headache
* epilepsy and seizure disorders
* neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease).
* cerebrovascular disease, such as transient ischemic attack and stroke.
* sleep disorders
* cerebral palsy
* infections of the brain (encephalitis), brain meninges (meningitis), spinal cord (myelitis)
* infections of the peripheral nervous system, such as botulism
* neoplasms - tumors of the brain and its meninges (brain tumors), spinal cord tumors, tumors of the peripheral nerves (neuroma)
* movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, hemiballismus, tic disorder, and Gilles de la Tourette syndrome
* demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system, such as multiple sclerosis, and of the peripheral nervous system, such as Guillain-Barré syndrome and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP)
* spinal cord disorders - tumors, infections, trauma, malformations (e.g., myelocele, meningomyelocele, tethered cord)
* disorders of peripheral nerves, muscle (myopathy) and neuromuscular junctions
* traumatic injuries to the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves
* altered mental status, encephalopathy, stupor and coma
* Speech and Language Disorders

Initially you should contact your family physician to rule out any infection, then be referred to an Urologist so that additional testing can be done if the Family Doctor feels this is necessary.
