Yes you are right Edessa is the old name of Urfa.

I am not quite sure, but according what my turkish friend sa have told me, the ancient name of Urfa was Edessa...But I am not sure.It is in south eastern Anatolia, but it is noy so much developped I think.
But I know soemthing else from Urfa:Ibo:Ibrahim Tatlises...A very famous singer...

Have not been, but from the pictures I have seen it looks very lovely and not so much spoiled...
I've had friends from Urfa and found them to be ever so friendly and down to earth people...
Good songs come from there as well :o)
