Personally I would say late summer early autumn. By then all the badgers will have mated and reared their young for the year so the population will be at an optimum level. Much later and some will have started hibernating if the weather is poor. Choose early spring and you miss out on the season's young.

Well i would say round about now. Spring Summer.
I'm not an expert at this but i do have a reason for my answer.

i didnt see any dead one at the side of the road for ages. And now there's loads. Just wanna point out i dont go looking for them or anything weird like that, i just happened to notice it and had a conversation about whether they hibernate with my girlfriend the other day. I also wanna point out that girlfriend does not hibernate with badgers, even though i may have just said that, although that is an intersting thought.

Actually, does anyone know whether badgers hibernate?

Sorry but i'm not a batty type of person.

towards the end of the summer as early spring the younguns will still be in the set still, towards the end of the spring once the young leave set there will be some of the weaker ones will die throughout the summer so towards the end you will have a truer picture, the same would apply for bats.
