why is it that the majority of born muslims living in the uk and the usa, tend to 'rebel' the values and teachings of islam, for example, going clubbing, premarital sex, removal of the headscarf etc. im not tlaking about ALL muslims living in the uk and usa, im just tlaking about the ones who i have come across, and trust me, most of them have done stuff which islam would not agreee with.
and why is it that those 'white' girls who have reverted to islam, tend to show more respect towards their releiogn, compared to natuarrly born muslims.

it's not only islam sis,it's for every religion....when u get something without effort u take t for granted...it's human nature...
same is the case with us,as muslims,as humans,,....we forget to thank Allah for the greatest blessing He has granted us... while those who revert to islam, understood, judged n struggled for it....they know the importance of Islam....v don't b\c we are already gifted wid it....
Good day sis.Aslam o alaikum

Hehe well I'm one of those "white girls" you speak of. Perhaps we are reverts know what we've got because we went searching and found it. Born Muslims - not all of course - were simply born into it. So it depends if they were taught well from their parents or if they didn't grow up in a religious household. Then there are those who do rebel because they've been taking the hard road all through life and wanted to see what it's like on the wild side - and God willing they will straighten themselves out. But I must say as reverts we have all gone through a very trying time in order to get our lives together. It didn't happen overnight. It took many years to get to where we are now. We had to stop wearing shorts or revealing clothing, learn to pray and be discplined to pray 5 times a day, stop alcohol, get rid of male friends and boyfriends... and the list goes on. It took a lot of time and was very difficult - the toughest thing we've ever done. And we still struggle just like any other muslim does.

and the others that were born muslim,i think it must be so hard for the ones that move to theses countries and stick with a strong faith.there are so many corupt people out there
i know in my heart that Islam and the Quran is right and true. But the people in this world are going astray.
Not just the muslims but all types of people

firstly, theres no such thing as a "reverted" person, as you obviously mean it.
the only context which "revert" would be a legitimate term, and NOT offensive, is to someone who was born that religion, converted OUT of that religion, and then RETURNS to it.
to refer to converting as "reverting" is disrespectful and offensive.
now, the real meaning of what you are referring to, that is, of converts being more observant than those born into a religion.
its not unusual for people born into a religion, to be less actively observant than converts. the general thought that I have heard as to why, is that for the people born into the religion, it is routine. its essentially part of who they are. it has no novelty and does not need to be made a point of.
or you could say, if you want, that they are more lazy about it because its less special, as its just part of life.
kinda like how for an older person to have a computer is signifigant.
where for someone younger... its simply a given part of life to have computers.
edit: also, I encourage everyone who has the slightest shred of respect for other people, to report posts that call it "revert". maybe I'm just getting hung up on something thats merely semantics, but I personally find the term being used in that way, to be truly, and deeply offensive, disrespectful, and deceptive.
edit2:
>>"i have been told by my muslim friends that it is called 'reverting' to islam since evryone is born muslim."<<
yes. and that is an offensive, disrespectful, untrue, and deceptive belief.
I still encourage anyone who has respect for other people, to report posts which support the use of that term in that manner.

It's the same with all religion.
When you're born into that religion, it doesn't neccesarily mean you'll know everything about that religion.
Where as a convert learns about the religion, and that is why he converts.
As for myself, born muslim, learn the ways of Islam, and intend to stay that way until the end of time.

either you born muslim or u did not. u will not believe unless God wells. in this verse, God makes it clear that there is different between a muslim and a Mu'min (believer):
[14] The bedouins say: "We believe." Say: "You believe not but you only say, 'We have surrendered (in Islâm),' for Faith has not yet entered your hearts. .....
Quran 49:14
so either u born muslim or u did not. when u become a Mu'min (believer) it's like u convert to Islam. the majority of the companions of prophet Muhammad were converters.

Same reason born Christians are sometimes less sincere in their faith than "born again" Christians.
For some people, Islam is a culture, not a religion. They are wrong. (I don't think it is the majority of western-born Muslims, is it?)

When you convert to a religion then it's based off of your own decision. When your told to believe then it's not really your decision. You are more likely to rebel against your parent's teachings than your own educated decision.
